“Sure. See you then,” Sierra said to Jubilee.
After she hung up, she checked her calendar.
One month was neither too long nor too short, and there were only a few days left. It was time to confirm the day they would finalize the divorce.
She had a job now, which meant she had to plan for taking a one–day leave.
As all sorts of thoughts were in her mind, she texted John.
[Are you free on Thursday?]
When John saw the message, he had just gotten home. He knew exactly why she was asking and chose not to respond.
By evening, Sierra still had no answer. Her mind drifted back to what Nicholas had asked her earlier.
What if John refuses to get divorced?
The thought that it could become reality made her uneasy. After dinner with Tommy, she called John again. She skipped any greeting and went straight to it after he picked up. “Did you see the message I sent you?”
John was at a bar with Kenneth and Lucy. He glanced at his drink and didn’t bother lying. “I saw it.”
Then why didn’t you reply?
The words almost slipped out, but she stopped herself before asking him.
He didn’t owe her an answer. If she pressed him, he would just throw her own words back at her, and they would end up fighting.
“Wednesday is the last day of the official cooling–off period. We can get the divorce certificate on Thursday,” Sierra said calmly. “If you’re free on Thursday, I’ll take a leave from work, and we can go together.”
John’s gaze darkened.
She really did want the divorce and leave him.
Kenneth and Lucy both felt the shift in John’s mood. Lucy shot Kenneth a nosy look, silently asking who could drag his mood down in just a few sentences.
Kenneth rolled his eyes.
Who else could do that but Sierra?
Kenneth knew it, but he wasn’t stupid enough to say it out loud. He would get smacked if he did.
“Are you listening?” Sierra asked, still calm.
John pressed his lips. His chest felt tight and uncomfortable. “Yeah.”
Sierra nearly snapped and wanted to start an argument. If he was listening, then auswer! What was wrong with him for not answering?
She kept it to herself, though.
“Then, are you free…”
Before she could finish, the call was cut off and turned into a busy signal. Sterra froze for a moment before frowning, She opened their chat and sent one question mark.

Chapter 234
When no reply came, she called again. This time, a mechanical female voice answered.
“Hello. The number you have dialed is unavailable…”
Sierra went quiet for a long time.

Unbelievable! His phone was off at a time like this.
If she knew John had done it on purpose, she would have blown up.
“Whose call was that?” Lucy watched John hang up, then shut off his phone. Curiosity burned in her eyes. “To think that there’s someone who can make you turn your phone off just to avoid them… You must introduce them to me.”
John put his phone away and raised his eyes slowly at her. “You really want to know?”
“Obviously,” Lucy said.
“Did you finish what I told you to do?” John asked.
“It wasn’t even that hard.” Lucy looked completely relaxed. “I can get it done with a flick of my fingers.”
Kenneth covered his face with one hand. Was she really not afraid of getting smacked?
“Then do it,” John said. He was used to her sharp tongue and naturally filtered it out. “If the investigation isn’t done by today, I’ll consider you slacking and cut your pay in half.”
Kenneth opened his mouth. The deadline was supposedly next Wednesday.
But since Lucy was the one getting punished, he shut his mouth again and left her to it.
“Sometimes I really hate you rich people,” Lucy mumbled, pulling out the laptop she always carried. “Always waving money around to threaten people. Keep it up, and I’ll hack your company and move every cent out of your accounts.”
