Chapter 274
Holly checked the rearview mirror and saw that a truck was really coming from behind.
She turned on the turn signal and changed lanes right away to avoid being hit. It was no joke. If that giant slammed into them, they’d be finished!
“He changed lanes with us,” Sierra said as she watched the traffic.
“This driver has to be crazy.” Holly had no choice but to move back again. They would be badly hurt if they got hit at this speed, if not worse. “Why is a truck like that driving so fast?”
“Could this be on purpose?” Sierra thought about everything that had happened that day. “The brakes failed, and now a truck has been following us the whole way.”
Holly stayed silent.
They couldn’t be any more unlucky. She did not dare to speed up now. If the car picked up any more speed, there would be no way to bring it back down.
“John, is there an emergency lane somewhere close?” Holly asked John, who was on the still–connected call via Sierra’s phone.
“Follow me.” As John spoke, his car appeared in the lane beside them. “Someone will handle the truck.”
“Got it.” Holly recognized his license plate with all those eights at a glance and hurried after him.
Some of the tightness in Sierra’s chest finally eased.
Neither of them realized it, but John had quietly become a symbol of safety for them. No matter how furious he made them with the things he did, when it came to something like this, they instinctively felt he was reliable.
With John leading the way, there were no more close calls during the rest of the drive.
Five minutes later, John’s car pulled over at the side of the road. “Drive into the emergency lane.”
Holly did as he said, and before long, the car rolled to a steady stop.
She and Sierra both relaxed completely.
“That scared me half to death, I really thought…” Holly was about to tell Sierra they had just gone through a life–and–death fnoment together when the passenger door opened.
John’s face came into view, calm at first glance, but his eyes were full of worry.
Holly opened her mouth, then swallowed the words.
Forget it.
Since he had just saved them, she wouldn’t yell at him for now. She might as well let him have a moment alone with Sierra.
“How do you feel?” John looked at Sierra from head to toe. “Did it scare you?”
Sierra’s heartbeat had mostly calmed down. “I’m alright.”
Holly said nothing
Alright?
When they first realized the brakes had failed, they felt like their souls almost jumped out of their bodies.
“I don’t remember there being an emergency escape lane here.” Holly looked at the lane after she got out. It looked brand new,
the work even a bit rushed.

“That’s because the boss just had us build it,” a bodyguard said.
Holly glanced around.
A ramp about a hundred meters long. More than twenty bodyguards were standing in neat rows.
