Chapter 280

That night, John had dinner with Sierra and Tommy. As John watched Sierra and Tommy quietly put food into each other’s plates, he felt like the old days had briefly come back.
“Ms. Bell, is this yours?” Grant suddenly lifted a folder.
Sierra followed the sound of his voice, stood up at once, and walked over. “That’s right. Pass it to me, please.”
Once it was in her hands, she turned the whole stack of papers face down.
“Work files?” John asked.
“Personal,” Sierra nodded.
John didn’t press her. Everyone had their own secrets. If Sierra did not want to explain about it, he would not ask.
After dinner, Sierra took the documents back to the bedroom as fast as she could and tucked them under her pillow. She did not want John to know about her mother, and she did not want him to get involved.
She had already decided on the divorce. Since this belonged to her, she had to deal with it herself.
Meanwhile, John was speaking to Tommy. “When you go to sleep later, don’t kick off the blanket and don’t bother your mom while she’s sleeping.”
Tommy looked at him with open suspicion. “I feel like you have a secret agenda. I already call you Uncle John, and you’re still letting me sleep with Mom.”
“Consider it as me being generous as the adult in the room,” John said in his low voice.
“That doesn’t sound right,” Tommy muttered.
“Then you can sleep by yourself. Just don’t regret it when you have to sleep in your own lonesomeness in the next eighteen days.

Tommy went quiet.
His eyes turned as he thought it over. Letting him sleep next to his mom would only make her a little less annoyed with him. It didn’t seem like there was any other agenda hidden in it.
After thinking about it for a long time, he nodded. “I’ll sleep next to Mom.”
John gave a soft hum of approval.
Seeing his dad agree so easily without adding anything else, the doubts Tommy had just pushed down appeared again. His instincts told him there was a trap waiting for him, but no matter how he tried, he could not figure out just what kind of trap was waiting for him.
He got his answer in the middle of the night.
At around two or three in the morning, John went to the master bedroom, carried Tommy back to the boy’s own room, then moved very quietly as he lifted the blanket and lay down. He then embraced Sierra from behind.
The moment her warm, faintly scented body pressed against his chest, his emotions settled.
He didn’t do anything else that night. Despite his body reacting more than it ever had, he just held her and slept.
Sierra knew nothing about it. In a haze, she felt that the person beside her had been switched to John, but she was too tired.
Too many things had happened during the day. She was completely drained, so much so that she could not tell if that feeling was real or just a dream.

The next morning…
John got up very early, worried about being found out. He had just finished dressing and opened the door when his gaze met Tommy’s. His son was sitting right outside.
