Mr. Gold from the games division eagerly hosted John, fully aware he was dealing with his direct superior. “This way, Mr. Henderson. Your seat is here. Mr. Robin’s, too.”
John nodded, glanced at Sierra, and sent her a message on his phone. [Want to sit next to me?]
Sierra replied immediately. [No thanks.]
John didn’t push it. He and Robin sat down, immediately becoming the center of attention.
As expected, the dinner turned into an exercise in mutual flattery. The games division’s senior management and executives fawned over John and Robin, while everyone else tried to please the rest of the bosses.
The food had yet to be fully served, but plenty of alcoholic drinks had already gone around.
“Come on, let’s all raise a glass to Mr. Henderson,” Mr. Gold lifted his wine glass, speaking passionately. He was completely at home in this kind of setting. “It’s all thanks to Mr. Henderson’s leadership that Henderson Group is where it is today.”
Sierra had no choice but to lift her glass.
Whether John had arranged it or not, there was only hard liquor and hot tea on the table. There wasn’t even a glass of plain water, so she had no way to quietly dodge it.
“Later, quietly tip the liquor onto this,” Leona whispered as she slipped a few pieces of tissue paper into Sierra’s hand. “Or swallow it and spit it back out. Just don’t pour it on the floor.”
The floor was carpeted. Any spilled liquid would leave a clear dark patch.
It would be one thing if it were just their own company’s team, but Henderson Group’s games division’s higher–ups and the technical experts who were training them were all here as well. Getting caught red–handed would not look good.
“Thanks,” Sierra murmured.
John noticed all their little tricks, but he didn’t call them out. The games division crew would still get others to join them for drinks during normal meals, even if they weren’t drinking.
The reason was simple. They called it boosting morale, and it boiled down to them bragging and making grand promises just to feel good about themselves.
Sure enough, a few more higher–ups from the games division started in again after just one round.
“If you ask me, no one in the industry has Mr. Henderson’s vision and capability. Just for that alone, we all owe him another
toast.”
“Mr. Henderson, I’ll finish my drink. You drink as you like!”
The mid–level and senior staff took their turns one by one. The rest of the table had no choice but to follow and drink along
After a few rounds, Sierra still ended up having to drink a little, even with all her tricks.
“Getting to work under Mr. Henderson is something many people can only dream about,” one of the games division’s senior managers said, turning his attention to the Origin Games team. “You should really cherish this chance.”
Everyone answered with polite smiles. “Of course!”
The executive gave them a look. “That’s all? Shouldn’t you show your appreciation?”
The Origin Games team fell silent. Normally, their department meals were much more relaxed. If someone wanted to drink, they did. If they did not, no one forced them. This was the first time they had to face such a drinking culture head–on.
“Mr. Henderson, I’d like to offer you a toast on behalf of Origin Games.” Leona stood up and delivered the standard line “Thank

She drained her glass in one go.
