Chapter 290
“No,” the manager replied to her with a good attitude.
“You’ll know when you get there,” Leona said, cutting off everyone else before they could start gossiping. “Maybe he wants you to keep an eye on us for the next few days since the director and Jenny are not here.”
“Alright.” Gratitude appeared in Sierra’s eyes.
She went up to the eighth floor with the manager, and he left as soon as he had walked her to the CEO’s office.
Sierra looked at the familiar yet foreign door, then raised her hand and knocked twice. After hearing his voice from inside, she opened it and stepped inside. She then asked with a serious tone, “Mr. Henderson, you want to see me?”
“There’s no one else here. Why so formal?” John’s tone was mild.
Sierra did not answer. She was having none of that.
“Come here.” John set aside the work in his hands.
Sierra walked up to his desk. She was just about to ask what he wanted when his unreadable eyes settled on her. “Are you getting used to everything already?”
“Yes,” Sierra nodded.
“Anything you want to say to me?” John asked.
Sierra looked at him, puzzled. She did not understand why he would say that.
“When you get back to the hotel after dinner tonight, come to my room in 1901,” John said, holding back the words he really wanted to say. “There’s something I need to talk to you about.”
“That’s not appropriate.” Sierra didn’t reject him directly.
“If you won’t, I’ll knock on your door myself,” John said. He was using the calmest voice he could, his eyes extremely dark. “The choice is yours. Decide.”
With that, Sierra was completely cornered. She had no way around; she couldn’t refuse him without affecting her work.
“These are your learning assignments for the week.” John handed her a folder. “Everyone has a corresponding partner from Henderson Group marked on it. Bring the folders down and hand them out.”
Sierra took the folders and left without a word.
Once downstairs, she handed out everyone’s assignments, then stood off to the side with her own sheet in hand. Instead of reading it, she stared at the page while her mind drifted.
There was only one thing John would want to talk to her about.
The divorce.
“What’s wrong?” Leona came over when she noticed something was off with Sierra, concerned in her voice. “Did Mr. Henderson give you something especially difficult to do?”
“No.” Sierra wasn’t used to letting others know too much about her private life. “I’m thinking about what to do for dinner tonight. With people from Henderson Group there, they’re probably going to push us to drink.”
She didn’t handle alcohol well, but there was no way to avoid it in a setting like this unless John deliberately let her off the hook,
It was moments like this that made her a little frustrated with herself. On one hand, she wanted to cut all ties with John. On the other hand, she still hoped he would speak up and shut down that ridiculous drinking culture when it came to things like this.

“It’s fine, I’ll drink for you.” Leona put a hand on her shoulder. “I don’t get drunk easily.”
Sierra laughed.
