Chapter 298
“When I came back, Mr. Henderson asked me to print the file Jenny sent and take a copy over to him,” Sierra explained to her coworker without batting an eye, as if something like that had really happened. “He decided the format wasn’t convenient enough and told me to bring him the original.”
Everyone exchanged looks.
Sierra kept going in a natural tone. “When I handed it to him, I probably pulled my keys out with the thumb drive without noticing.”
Leona took the initiative to cut in when it was almost time. “Our mentors are here. Come on, we should go.”
“Alright.” Sierra nodded.
The group broke apart and headed toward their assigned mentors.
Everyone had interpreted what had happened differently. Some thought Sierra had left her keys there on purpose to get Mr. Henderson’s attention. Some believed her explanation.
Others were sure Sierra and Mr. Henderson had a close relationship, or he would never have bothered to deliver a key in person.
Whatever their thoughts were, no one mentioned it in front of Sierra over the next few days.
That didn’t stop them from gossiping with friends in other teams. Before long, everyone in the Origin Games department knew what had happened, including Jenny and Cindy.
The three coworkers who usually gossiped with Cindy cornered her again. “What do you think is going on between Sierra and Mr. Henderson? Ms. Sanders told you a ton before, right?”
“Whatever’s going on, I’m staying out of it.” Now that she knew the truth, Cindy didn’t dare to run her mouth. “If you want to know it so badly, go and ask her.”
The three of them looked at her, puzzled by the sudden change in attitude.
Cindy said nothing more. She went back to her desk and focused on work.
Jenny overheard the conversation as she walked past. Seeing that the rumor hadn’t gotten too out of hand, she let it be. During a break from work, she sent a message to check in on Sierra.
[Are you settling in over there?]
Sierra replied: [Pretty good.]
She meant it, though. When she visited new locations in the past, she would often feel unwell with an upset stomach, headaches, and no appetite. This time, she felt fine.
Time slipped by, and it was already Wednesday.
Sierra and the others had already learned a lot from their mentors. Their horizons widened, but progress demanded practice, That night, everyone from Origin Games stayed late to finish the tasks their mentors had assigned, hoping they could quickly spot where their weaknesses were.
A little after eight in the evening, Sierra’s phone lit up with a call from Holly halfway through her overtime.
She glanced at her teammates, all busy with their work. She entered the break room and took her phone.
“Holly, what is it?”

“Your mom just woke up for about a minute!” Holly was so excited that her voice rose as she reported what happened. “Did Dr. Smith call you?”
Sierra’s heart skipped a beat.
She checked her phone quickly. There were no messages, no missed calls. “No.”
“He’s probably busy checking your mom’s reading and hasn’t had time yet.” Holly couldn’t hide the joy in her voice. “By the time you get back, Anna will probably be awake!”
Sierra was overcome with emotion.
