Sierra blinked.
“What?” Out of curiosity, she couldn’t help but ask, “My mom, she…”
“That’s all I can tell you. Don’t ask about the rest,” Jubilee said. She clearly didn’t want to say more.
Sierra gave a quiet nod. As long as she could leave, nothing else mattered.
They stayed in the hospital for a long time before finally heading out. Just as Sierra walked through the doors, her phone lit up. It was a call from Kenneth.
“Sierra, John is a little drunk. Can you come pick him up? He keeps calling your name.”
“No,” Sierra refused without the slightest hesitation. Lance was with him all the time. If anything happened, Lance would
handle it.
“He’s not really in a good state right now…” Kenneth hadn’t finished when Sierra cut in.
“Not my problem.” She hung up after that.
Kenneth stared at his phone, then at the man next to him who hadn’t touched a drop of alcohol. “Your wife can be pretty ruthless when she hardens her heart.”
John shot him a sharp look.
“Did you two have a fight?” Lucy lifted a brow, looking very much like she was here for the show.
“No.” John gave a flat answer.
“So there’s a fight,” Lucy concluded.
John said nothing.
Lucy continued to spectate. “What is it about this time? Pamela, or something else?”
“If you have time to dig into my life, you might as well talk about your mentor, Anna,” John said. He was very good at changing the subject, his tone slow and unhurried. “You tried so hard to hide it, but I still found out.”
“Oh?” Lucy made a vague sound.
John poured himself a drink. “Drop the act. I tricked it out of Jubilee. She admitted Anna is a hacker and took in a kid as her student when she was young.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Lucy said, voice lazy.
John didn’t bother arguing with her. He only gave a warning. “When Anna wakes up, you need to think about whose side you’re
on.”
Lucy leaned back in her seat, completely relaxed. “I already told you Anna isn’t my mentor.”
“Then, remember to stop her when she tries to take Sierra away,” John said. He saw straight through her little schemes. “Your hacking skills are no worse than hers now. If you still can’t stop her…”
Lucy raised her eyebrow.
So, he really did find out about it.
“Help me look into Anna’s past,” John told Kenneth. “If you can’t find anything, then start with Lucy’s mentor and Nathan.” Seeing how serious he was, Lucy knew for sure he had the truth now. “What is Jubilee’s relationship with my mentor?”

John glanced at her sideways. “Done playing pretend?”
“You’ve already guessed it,” Lucy said.
“They’re best friends,” John answered, knowing she did not actually know much about the real Anna.
“How do you know she wants to take Sierra away?” Kenneth asked after hearing all of it. He could not quite follow, and it showed in his eyes. “She’s still not awake, right?”
John traced the rim of his glass.
Anna had always treated Sierra well. If she had that kind of ability, and if she wanted to, she would help Sierra leave him in a
