‘You have got to be kidding me!‘ Kenneth cursed in his mind.
He almost wanted to punch John in the face. He had just come back, and was already being worked like free labor with such outrageous demands.
“I can’t promise I can lower the price exactly to sixty thousand,” Kenneth said bluntly. “Your mother–in–law’s surgery costs at least fifty thousand, and you offer her sixty thousand. Are you sure she won’t suspect you’re behind this?”
“She won’t,” John replied.
Kenneth blinked. “What?”
John lifted his gaze. “I’ll offer her sixty thousand. Not a cent more.”
“I seriously don’t know what goes on in your mind.” Kenneth really couldn’t make sense of him. “You used to be madly in love with her before, but now you’re making things so difficult for her. I’m starting to suspect there’s something wrong inside your head.”
“She asked me for a divorce. I need her to understand how dangerous the world is without me.”
John spoke with complete apathy.
Kenneth wondered if he had misheard him. “Divorce?”
He had been abroad for the past few years, but he still knew how lovey–dovey John and Sierra had been. Sometimes when John called and started showing off, the affection between them was so intense that even he felt tempted to find a relationship.
And now… These two, who used to be sweet, were divorced?
John nodded. “Yeah.”
Kenneth immediately leaned in, curious. “Why?”
“She refuses to accept Pamela.” John downed the last of his drink, his tone unmoved.
A series of question marks filled Kenneth’s mind.
Who was Pamela?
“Is Pamela Sanders a woman?” he asked cautiously.
John looked at him as if he were an idiot.
A little while later, Kenneth finally understood the whole story.
He stared at the man sitting in the luxurious booth, all sharp presence and refined good looks, and asked a very reasonable question.
“Isn’t it normal for her not to accept this?”
John shot him a look.
“Would you accept it if she asked you to accept another man in her life?” Kenneth pressed. At least his logie was intact.
“That didn’t affect her place as my wife,” John said as he set down the glass. “As long as she agrees, Pamela won’t affect any of her rights. She will still be my wife who has all my love.”
Kenneth was quick–witted and caught the core problem. “Her rights may stay the same, but what about her feelings? When both women need you, whose side will you take?”

“Whichever side needs me more,” John answered without hesitation.
“No wonder this is happening to you. Anyone would divorce you. She’s already pulling punches by calling you scum,” Kenneth said; he didn’t hold back at all.
John turned his eyes on Kenneth. He didn’t speak, but he was already getting chills down his spine.
“Fine, you’re not scum. You’re considerate. You’re the most caring man toward her.” He corrected himself instantly, but inside, he was somewhat losing it. “I’ll go handle it right now.”
Kenneth slipped away without staying a second longer.
Only John was left sitting in the booth. The top two buttons of his white shirt were undone because of the warmth inside the room, the loose collar revealing the sun–kissed skin. In the dim light, his handsome face showed no joy or anger.
He stared at the woman beaming on his phone’s lock screen. His thumb gently brushed over her cheek, and his eyes grew darker and darker.
Why couldn’t you just obey?
