Chapter 381
“Fine.” John agreed to Solomon without hesitation, his gaze calm. “Money’s the last thing I’m short of.”
He started to hang up, but Solomon spoke first. “Wait.”
John’s voice was cool. “What is it?”
“I won’t get in touch with Pamela anymore.” Solomon couldn’t tell whether John had meant what he just said or not, but still stopped him just in case. “In exchange, you stay out of my business too.”
John didn’t answer and simply hung up. He had no interest in meddling in other people’s affairs. He had only said that to warn Solomon.
Thinking back on it, Solomon clearly cared whether Tammy stayed or left, yet he still let his parents arrange a fiancee for him. Pathetic.
Half an hour later, he arrived at Lakeside Villa.
Pamela was on the living room sofa, anger written all over her face. Standing in front of her were the two bodyguards hired for her earlier.
When she saw him, Pamela jumped to her feet and started complaining.
“I was simply asking them to move some things for me, and they refused. They even said some nasty things! What are you going to do about this?”
John’s eyes went cold as he looked at them. The two bodyguards‘ legs quivered a little.
“How do you want to handle this?” John asked.
“Make them slap themselves and kneel to apologize to me!” Pamela demanded.
She was done playing pretend. Now, she let her true colors show.
“They’re only my employees.” John’s tone stayed calm. “I don’t have the right to make them do that.”
“As long as you say it, they’ll do it,” Pamela insisted.
John looked at her, the atmosphere between them suddenly heavy.
Pamela felt a little intimidated, but she still forced herself to sound bold. “Or were you just blowing smoke when you said you would take good care of me? You won’t even do something as basic as to stand up for me.”
“Do you really not know why they said those things?” John didn’t call her out directly.
For no clear reason, Pamela’s heart skipped a beat in panic.
What did he mean? Was he talking about what they had said, or the fact that they had yelled at her at all?
“There are some things I didn’t spell out for you because I want you to keep a little dignity,” said John as he walked a little closer to her. “That doesn’t mean I don’t know anything.”
“What… What do you mean?” Pamela still refused to admit anything.
“Live your life properly, and everything you have now will stay yours.” John reminded her. “But if you reach too far and get too greedy, you shouldn’t be surprised when things change.”
Pamela felt a pang of dread. “You want to go back on your promise?”
John didn’t answer her directly. Instead, he asked her a question. “Do you know what kind of person Solomon is?”

Pamela’s face went pale.
He really did know!
“Everyone who tries to profit off of him ends up paying for it dearly.” There was no anger on John’s face, and his voice stayed mild. “Why do you think he’s helping you?”
Pamela wanted to say it was because he didn’t want John to have it easy, but John’s expression made her realize it was not that simple.
“He’s got a friend in bad shape who needs a heart transplant,” John said. “They spent a long time looking for a matching donor, then he suddenly stopped.”
Pamela’s body trembled with fright. “You mean…”
“I’m only telling you the kind of person he is,” John said. “Nothing more.”
Pamela forced down the fear pounding in her chest.
If Solomon really was helping her because her heart matched his friend’s, what was she supposed to do?
The two bodyguards stared. Since when had their boss ever said he wanted this woman’s heart?
In their heads, they were yelling at John to stop making things up.
“You can’t let him take my heart,” Pamela said, holding John’s arm. Fear and panic washed over her. “I saved you! You have to protect me!”
