Chapter 387
“John.” Anna called out to John.
She had seen the way he looked at Sierra.
John turned his head. “Anna.”
“Come here. I want to talk,” Anna said.
John walked over and sat down.
Anna sounded polite, but every word hit hard. “Have you thought about what we talked about before?”
“My answer is still the same,” John said. “Sierra is my wife. I won’t divorce her.”
“Even if she’s not happy with you?” Anna asked.
“I’ll do my best to make her happy,” John said.
Anna looked straight into his eyes. “And if she’s still not happy after you do your best?”
“Then we’ll talk about it when that time comes,” John said with the same expression on his face before changing the topic. ” What matters more right now is whether you want her to acknowledge Chairman Lynch. As far as I know, after he went back to Harbor City, he had started preparing for that.”
“What does that have to do with me?” Anna said.
“Sierra is his daughter,” John said.
Anna’s eyes stayed cool. “Where’s the proof?”
John paused.
“A paternity test done without permission doesn’t stand up in court. Even if he files a lawsuit, he can only lose in the end,” Anna said bluntly. “He has no chance of winning.”
John said nothing.
He had only raised it to test the waters, to see whether Sierra might go and recognize that man as her father, so he could plan for what came next.
Anna saw straight through him but didn’t call him out. She simply added, “But if someone wants to make life hard for Sierra, I don’t mind using him a little to shield her.”
John looked up.
His mother–in–law was a little too sharp, wasn’t she?
“Use who for what?” Sierra had just finished talking with Dr. Smith and walked over in time to catch that final line, a trace of confusion in her eyes.
“Nothing.” Anna didn’t let Sierra touch any of this. She would handle the scheming herself. “Call a few cleaners and have them clean up our place. When I’m discharged next week, we’ll go back and stay there.”
Sierra felt a quiet joy in her chest. “Okay.”
“Campanile Estate has a full–time nutritionist and therapist,” John cut in at once. “You can just move back to Campanile Estate.
“No.” Anna kept a perfect record of every suffering her daughter had gone through. “I’m not interested in a house that changes owners every other day.”

John fell silent.
He wanted to explain that it was just his anger talking, then realized something else.
It wasn’t just that Anna resented him for what had happened. More importantly, she and Sierra were getting ready to leave.
If they moved back into Campanile Estate, leaving later would be far too obvious.
“Then I’ll have the nutritionist and therapist move to your place,” John said instead. “You have only just woken up. You need to be careful with your diet.”
“I already found my own,” Sierra said. She had worked through every detail in her head ever since Anna woke up. “No need for you to worry about it.”
“As your husband, I should shoulder some of that with you,” John said smoothly. “Send me the nutritionist’s info, and I’ll help you check.”
Sierra stared at him.
For once, John had no idea why she was angry. “What’s wrong?”
Sierra opened her mouth, but she swallowed everything down in the end and just said, “Nothing.”
Everything she had been through lately had left her oversensitive. One sentence from John that rubbed her the wrong way, anger would flare up before she could stop it.
Her first reaction when she heard him talk like that was to think he didn’t trust her. That in his eyes, she was someone who
could not handle anything on her own.
When in truth, he was simply being concerned and asked them the question subconsciously.

When John saw Sierra not wanting to talk about it, he did not press. When it was time to eat, he had food sent up, and once they finished, he went back to the company.
In the days that followed, he still made time to come by every day.
Even though Anna didn’t like him, he showed up regardless. On the day she was discharged, he even sent people to pick her up.
Dr. Smith was super happy when Anna was finally discharged from the hospital, second only to Sierra.
He was happy Anna had finally recovered, and happy that all of Sierra’s persistence and effort hadn’t been wasted.
