Sierra turned her head away. She was in no mood to deal with both John and Pamela anymore. She forced down the feeling of being glared at and steadied herself before turning back to Dr. Smith.
“Doctor, let’s continue.”
Dr. Smith gulped. It was really impossible to ignore the intense pressure coming from his boss.
He was just about to suggest she come back later when John said, “Dr. Smith.”
“Yes, Mr. Henderson.” Dr. Smith answered at once.
“From now on, you’re no longer in charge of Sierra’s mother.” John’s words were directed at Dr. Smith, but his dark eyes stayed on Sierra. “Transfer her case to someone else.”
Dr. Smith instinctively glanced at Sierra.
Sierra’s heart tightened, and her protest came out without thinking. “Dr. Smith has been treating my mom from the beginning. Why are you replacing him with someone else?”
Dr. Smith had always been the one to take care of her mom since the accident some years ago. He had been there, from all the daily checks to the sudden need for surgeries. If he were to step aside now, what would happen to the surgery?
“You’re the one who told me not to indulge you anymore,” John said with a sharp, icy tone. “Since I’ve agreed to it, I’ll take back every privilege you and your mother have, including special treatment in this hospital.”
Dr. Smith frowned and tried to speak up for Sierra. “Mr. Henderson…”
“If you insist on treating her mother, you can resign right now.” John did not soften at all. “Your severance will be wired to your account after you leave.”
Dr. Smith did not dare to say another word after that. This was a top private hospital under the Henderson Group. Firing someone here was nothing to John, as almost everyone in the building had been headhunted with the promise of high salaries.
Sierra did not expect him to be this ruthless, but she also knew he was not doing this only because of that one sentence she had
thrown at him.
He was doing this in support of Pamela.
“John!” Pamela got up and limped over, tugging his sleeve. “Sierra is someone straight like an arrow, so please don’t get mad at her? It’s her mother’s life we’re talking about.”
“This is the outcome she chose. She can learn to live with it.” John’s voice was still as cold.
“Then let her pay the price, No need to drag her mother into this, okay?” Pamela kept pleading for Sierra as she shook John’s arm lightly.
John turned his gaze away from Sierra and looked at the woman beside him. “Why are you still speaking up for her when she treated you like that?”
“We were friends once. Even if she didn’t like me now, you can’t erase our past relationship,” Pamela said slowly and softly. ” And her mom has always been good to me. Don’t make things harder on her, okay?”
“Fine.” John agreed.
Pamela smiled and hugged his arm. “I know you’re the best.”
Dr. Smith finally let out a small breath of relief and could not help glancing at Sierra. Her eyes were still fixed on the two of them, standing close together. Watching the way they interacted, there was no anger on her pale, beautiful face. The only expression she showed was numbness.

“I don’t need you to plead for me, so cut your act,” Sierra said, her dark eyes stripped of their old softness.
Dr. Smith tugged lightly at her sleeve. “Ms. Bell…”
