Chapter 42
Dr. Smith was not sure why John was asking that question, so after considering the situation carefully, he decided to answer honestly.
“It’s pretty serious. If the wound were anywhere else, it would need several stitches.”
John shot a dark glare at the doctor. Dr. Smith kept his expression steady, but he was already a wreck inside.
“Make sure the surgery is done properly,” John said, his gaze sweeping over the medical instruments nearby. “I don’t want another incident like today.”
“Understood.” Dr. Smith immediately put them away.
John walked out of the hospital and called his personal assistant, Robin. “What is she doing right now?”
“Looking for a place to live,” Robin replied.
John’s eyes darkened a little, and he gave Robin a few brief instructions.
Robin went to carry them out.
Sierra had no idea John’s people were watching her every move. After scraping together the money for the surgery, she started looking for an apartment.
Fortunately, things worked out for her, and she found a place with decent surroundings and a reasonable price. It was also not far from Tommy’s school.
Once she made sure there were no issues, she signed the lease with the landlord and paid a deposit plus three months‘ rent.
She spent most of the day cleaning the place. She also moved her things in and put everything where it needed to go.
When she finally finished, she sent John a message.
[Maple Residences Building One, Apartment Number 1802. Send Tommy’s things over.]
There was no reply, but Sierra didn’t say anything else.
Around four in the afternoon, someone knocked on the door.
When Sierra opened it, John was standing there in a suit.
His eyes swept over the apartment. It was less than a thousand square feet. After a few glances, he stepped inside, and the once wide living room seemed to shrink as his tall figure stepped inside.
“You really want Tommy to live here?” John looked at her. “His walk–in closet is bigger than this entire place.”
“I asked you to bring his things, not to critique where I live,” Sierra answered.
She knew this place was tiny compared to where they had lived before, but she would work hard and earn money. She would gradually give him a better life.
“Tommy’s things go in this room.” Sierra opened one bedroom door, then opened another. “And the pillows he sleeps with go in here.”
John glanced inside.
Those two rooms were the largest in this apartment. The only room left was a small study of a little more than a hundred square feet.
She was going to sleep in that.

Sierra didn’t notice his gaze. She was busy helping the bodyguards move Tommy’s belongings and putting everything in order. Out of the three rooms, one became Tommy’s walk–in closet, and one his bedroom. The last one would be Sierra’s own bedroom, and it was already crammed with her things.
John walked a few steps farther and stopped when he saw the spotless kitchen.
Sierra couldn’t cook. He remembered that very clearly.
Sierra came out after finishing the unpacking and saw him still standing in the living room. “You can go now.”
It was clear she was asking him to leave.
“For Tommy to safely make it to adulthood, I will have people take care of all his meals.” John’s voice was flat and emotionless. “I would implore you not to feed him any random things on your own.”
