No one wanted their children to hate them.

When Nathan learned that Sierra was the same child he had once had with Anna, he felt like he was finally alive after more than twenty years of numbness. He had even gone back to the Lynch family and made plans so he could bring her home
“I don’t need it,” Sierra refused without a second of doubt. “If you really felt guilty about what you did to my mom back then, you wouldn’t have waited over twenty years to apologize.”
At that, the look in Cyrus’s eyes, which had been quietly watching from the side, changed. He realized what he had done was not so different from Nathan.
“Anna…” Nathan tried to ease things through Anna.
“My baby’s opinion is the same as mine.” Anna felt nothing for Nathan anymore. What had happened back then and the twenty years apart were enough to wash everything away. “Once you’re done with the cake, please leave.”
Nathan’s gaze darkened.
After a long silence, he still forced out that one sentence. “She’s my daughter, no matter what.”
Annå did not care at all. “Where’s the proof?”
Nathan had no answer.
With John stopping him at every turn, he couldn’t even get a proper paternity test done with Sierra. The more he thought about it, the more dissatisfied his expression toward John became.
John did not care. He cared about Sierra and Anna.
As for this unacknowledged father–in–law… Offending him meant nothing. Even if the man clung on later and somehow earned Sierra and Anna’s forgiveness, he would still be on shaky ground in the family.
After that brief clash, Sierra cut the cake and handed out the slices.
Cyrus, who had stayed silent the whole time, finally walked over and stopped in front of Sierra and Anna when they had almost
finished.
“Do you have a moment? There’s something I want to talk to you about.”
Anna, Sierra, Cyrus, and his butler went upstairs to the study.
Once they were there, Cyrus felt miserable when he saw how distant Anna and Sierra were.
“What do you want to talk about?” Sierra asked directly.
Cyrus gave his butler a look.
The butler then took a share purchase agreement from his bag and set it in front of them, his gaze turning to Anna. “This is the one you signed back then. Every clause on it is still in effect.”
In other words, as long as they wanted, they could buy back the King Group shares at the same price they had sold them for.
“I know.” Anna did not hide anything. “I was just about to have Sierra buy them back.”
“Charlie may not be very willing.” Cyrus’s voice was hoarse. “But you don’t need to worry about it. I’ll speak to him when I go back later today.”
Anna gave him a quiet nod.
Seeing her so cold with him, Cyrus wanted to say something else, but stopped himself. The old Anna was much more aggressive,

but she seemed so much gentler now.
“When you’re willing to come back, there’s always a place for the two of you in the King family.” After a brief pause, Cyrus finally said, “If you don’t want to, I’ll respect your decision as well.”
“You have changed a lot,” Anna said it as a simple fact.
Cyrus felt a heavy regret. “When you lose the best daughter you ever had, you have to work on some self–reflection.”
Anna did not answer. The fact that he had changed this much would only make it better for Sierra to take over the shares.
Cyrus opened his mouth again. “Annie…”
“We’re not that close for you to call me that.” Anna corrected him in a calm, formal tone. “Next time we meet, just call me Anna.
