Nicholas stood up and was just about to go in and speak with Dr. Yates when Kenneth rushed toward him.
“Wait!”
Nicholas paused. “What?”
The doctor looked at Kenneth.
“What are you doing here?” Nicholas had never liked Kenneth, so his tone turned cold the moment he saw the man.
“Well, I’m starting to miss you because I haven’t seen you for quite some time.” Kenneth kept a smile on his face, keeping the disgust deep inside. “You’re going to see the patient, right? Let’s go together.”
The corner of Nicholas’s mouth twitched. Couldn’t this guy come up with a better excuse?
Kenneth pushed him instead. “What are you standing there for? Let’s go.”
“I’m going to see the patient, but that’s none of your business, right?” Nicholas pulled Kenneth’s hand off his shoulder and added a little force into it. “Go back where you came from.”
“You’re not letting me in?” Kenneth asked.
Nichola’s attitude was very clear. “No.”
“Are you sure?” Kenneth pressed again.
“I am,” Nicholas said.
Kenneth gritted his teeth.
If Nicholas went in first, he would probably say something to make Dr. Yates keep his mouth shut, whether by intimidation or bribing him with money. Even if Kenneth brought up Solomon’s identity, the man would most likely keep his mouth shut.
“Name your terms.” Kenneth knew tricks were useless with Nicholas, so he got straight to the point. “What will it take for you to let me go in with you?”
“Call me Master,” Nicholas answered without hesitation.
Kenneth was so angry that he couldn’t get a word out. He stared at Nicholas with wide eyes. Where was his knife when he needed it?!
“It’s fine if you won’t say it.” Nicholas turned and spoke to his bodyguards. “Keep Mr. Gomez out of the room. Don’t let him in to disturb the patient’s rest.”
“Hold on,” Kenneth called after him.
Nicholas looked back over his shoulder.
Kenneth took several deep breaths. His hands curled into tight fists at his sides. Only then did he grit his teeth and force the word out, low and stiff.
“Master.”
He felt like he had humiliated himself for John’s sake. One day, he was going to make Nicholas call him Master too!
“Too soft. I didn’t hear it.” Nicholas scratched his ear; his tone made Kenneth grit his teeth even harder,
The second time was no easier than the first, and Kenneth said, “Master.”
“What did you say?” Nicholas asked.

Kenneth finally roared it. “Master!”
Nicholas kept pushing. “Why are you so soft? Didn’t you eat?”
“Nicholas!” Kenneth was fuming so much, he found it hard to breathe. He had never dealt with someone as despicable as this.‘
Don’t push it.”
“So what if I am pushing it? What can you do about it?” Nicholas looked completely indifferent. “You’re the one asking me for something, not the other way around. Don’t forget how you all made things hard for me before.”
“Fine. Master! Master Kenneth!” Kenneth snapped. He felt like his whole mind had blown apart. “Happy now?”
“I am,” Nicholas said, feeling thoroughly satisfied. “Good slave.”
