"Holly." Sierra looked at her.
Holly met Sierra's eyes, gentle and patient. "Go ahead."
Sierra pressed her lips together and voiced the thought that had been weighing on her mind. "I want to find Pamela and see whether she had used that scar to get close to John."
"Of course," Holly said, respecting every decision she made. "I'll go with you."
Holly knew exactly what Sierra was thinking. Sierra would rather anyone else be the woman who saved John, even if that person had to be Pamela. It was tougher to accept how fate messed with people than the actual truth.
Sierra didn't sleep at all.
Her mind was full of everything between her and John. The sweet moments, the arguments, the happy times, the suffocating ones...
She remembered every expression on his face and his tone of voice back then. She remembered how he loved her, and she also remembered the cruel things he had said in anger.
Soon, it was a little after six in the morning.
She picked up her phone and had Pamela's number on her screen. After hesitating for a moment, she sent Pamela a text.
[I know who that person is now. The deal is off.]
Pamela didn't see the message until after eight. She didn't panic at all and simply assumed Sierra was bluffing. She called Sierra, her tone as casual as ever.
"Then go ahead and tell me who it is."
If Sierra really knew, she wouldn't have sent that message. She would have screamed at Pamela and demanded to know why Pamela had stolen her place.
"Me," Sierra answered calmly as she made the call in the study.
Pamela froze.
For a long time, nothing came from her end of the line.
Sierra didn't give Pamela a chance to talk her way out of it and asked bluntly, "I didn't even know that man was John back then. How did you know?"
The other end stayed silent for a while, then the call ended without a word.
Pamela was freaking out right then.
How could this happen? How had Sierra found out?!
Originally, Sierra still had some doubts about this. However, she was sure of it now after how Pamela had reacted. She was indeed the one who had saved John.
"Alright."
"I'll find time later to invite Louisa out for a meal," Sierra added. "She's been running around for me for so long. I should thank her properly."
"I can handle that. You should focus on what you need to do," Anna said.
She and Louisa were already good friends, and even though they had not seen each other much in recent years, the bond they forged in their youth was still there.
"Before you withdraw the case, I still hope you'll think it over carefully."
Sierra nodded. "Alright."
Anna patted her head. "If anything happens, tell Mom. Don't carry it all by yourself."
"Okay," Sierra said.
For the rest of the morning, Sierra stayed with Holly.
When it was a little after ten, Holly asked her, "When are you planning to tell John about the divorce? Kenneth has already gone into Dr. Yates's ward. He'll know everything in half an hour, at most."
