Isaac wore a gray suit. With his glasses on, he looked somewhat scholarly. “Ignore him. He’s just a showoff.”
“Who are you calling a showoff, you uptight fake gentleman?” Gary shot back at once.
Isaac only glanced at him and said nothing.
To Gary, that was basically a challenge, and he looked ready to start a fight right there.
Maxwell took the initiative to speak to Sierra. “Are you getting used to Harbor City?”
“It’s alright.” Sierra answered politely. When other people treated her with courtesy, she gave the same in return.
“When you have time, bring Aunt Anna home for a visit,” Maxwell said. “No matter what happened back then, the King family will always be your home.”
Sierra said nothing.
The King family could never be home, but Maxwell’s attitude was so mild that she couldn’t exactly yell at him. Instead, she let
the topic pass with silence and a faint smile.
A little later, a server brought over the fruit juice and champagne and set them in front of her within easy reach.
She had just picked up a glass to ease the mood when Gary suddenly said, “Cousin.”
Sierra corrected him. “Just call me Sierra.”
“I heard you’re married to John Henderson.”
Even though Gary was based in Harbor City, he was the CEO of Chapman Group. So, he knew about the gossip going around in Jade City’s social circle.
Sierra’s hand, holding the glass, froze for a moment.
Maxwell’s dark eyes shifted to Gary. “So many drinks in front of you, and that’s still not enough to shut you up?”
“I was just curious.” Gary cleared his throat, trying to cover the awkwardness. “Everyone’s been talking about your divorce from John, so I wanted to know if the gossip was true.”
Maxwell glanced at Sierra without thinking.
Divorce?
Gary raised his wineglass and lightly tapped it against Sierra’s juice. “Sorry for being rude. I’ll drink as an apology.”
“It’s fine.” Sierra did not answer his question.
Even though things between her and John had come to this, she still did not want their private matters to become gossip for other people. Only they needed to know what was going on between them.
“You and John…” Maxwell didn’t want to ask, but after thinking it over, he still spoke.
Sierra changed the subject. She had no intention of talking to him about that. “Didn’t your secretary say you wanted to talk to me about something?”
That one sentence was enough for Maxwell to understand that she did not want to discuss it. So, he nodded. “Yes.”
“What is it?” Sierra asked.
Maxwell glanced at Gary and Isaac. “Later.”

“Alright.”
Sierra did not speak again. Her phone, however, buzzed several times. All of them are messages from Holly.
[What is Maxwell talking to you about?]
[Is he threatening you?]
[I can see that you haven’t moved at all. Are they ignoring you?]
After reading the last message, Sierra instinctively looked up at the hotel, but she didn’t see Holly among the people moving around nearby. Instead, she noticed Maxwell looking at her phone.
Sierra immediately locked the screen. She didn’t know why she suddenly felt a strange sense of guilt.
“I need to talk to Sierra about something.” Maxwell’s mind was still on the messages he had just seen on her screen. His eyes shifted slightly as he said to the other two, “Take a walk and give us some privacy.”
