“Sure,” Sierra said coldly to John. “I hope you mean it. See you in a month.”

After that, she didn’t stay for even a second. She walked straight toward Nicholas and Holly, who were waiting for her.

John watched her talk and laugh with them then got into their car without looking back. Even after the car was gone from his sight, he still stood there without moving.

“Sir…” Robin hesitated, as if he had something to say.

John’s expression did not change. “Say it.”

Robin pressed his lips, then finally spoke. “If you really can’t let Ms. Bell go, talk to her properly. Mr. Gomez went too far that day, but some of what he said wasn’t wrong.”

“There’s no need for any of that,” John said.

He would keep every promise he had made.

He would use the truth as his answer to Danny and the others. He would make them understand that a promise was something you had to keep, even if it cost you your life.

“Can you really accept her leaving?” Robin asked. “According to your agreement, once the divorce is final, you’re not supposed to let see her again for the rest of your life.”

John said nothing; he simply walked away.

The next month passed quickly.

John focused on recovering. Every waking hour went into dealing with company matters, big and small. He didn’t leave himself a single moment to think about Sierra or the divorce.

Sierra was much the same. She spent her days and nights learning everything she could about running a company, while also trying to understand the King family and the people from the other major families in Harbor City.

Other than the time she set aside each day for Tommy, she spent all her remaining hours studying and memorizing information. Sometimes, she would even read through files on her phone while she ate.

That day, Nicholas came to see her.

When he saw her finish dinner in five minutes and head upstairs, worry appeared on his face. “Anna, has Sierra been like this the whole time lately?”

Anna nodded. “Yes.”

“Aren’t you going to talk to her?” Nicholas had noticed Sierra looked much thinner than she had half a month ago.

She respected everything about her daughter, including the way Sierra buried herself in work after getting hurt in love.

“She said that if she had too much free time, she was afraid she would start thinking too much.”

By the time he reached the study, Sierra had just finished reviewing the backgrounds, experience, and business ties of most of the people in Harbor City. Next, she was planning to continue studying company management and investment. If the King family made things difficult for her, she would at least be able to handle it.

“Sierra,” Nicholas called out to her.

Sierra looked up, a little surprised to see him. “Nicholas. Have you eaten?”

“I did.” Nicholas walked in and stopped beside her, pretending he knew nothing. “What are you so busy

with? You barely ate before coming upstairs.”

“You came at the perfect time.” Sierra turned her chair toward him. “There’s something I want to ask you.”

Nicholas glanced at her. Ask him? That sounded way too formal.
