Chapter 507
“Of course. As long as you pass the test, we’ll hand over the shares willingly,” Charlie answered Sierra before glancing at Maxwell. “Maxwell, don’t make things too hard for your cousin. Go a little easy on her.” Maxwell’s eyes were dark, his expression unreadable as always. Then, he said with a voice that was as cold as ever, “This is a family test. Everyone should be judged by the same standard.”
“She’s the only girl in the family.” Loren spoke up too. “Just go easy on her in private. It’s only a formality.” Joey watched them play their parts, and a trace of mockery flickered in his lazy eyes
“What your brother said makes sense. Ms. Bell wasn’t raised with the family’s guidance. If she’s judged by the exact same standard, she probably won’t pass.”
“Exactly.”
Charlie and his butler Winston finished each other’s sentences as they wore the same expressions on their faces, as if they were acting in Sierra’s best interest.
“Maxwell, since the patriarch had already said so, you might as well go easy on her,” Peter said too, his tone openly mocking. “Sierra isn’t Anna. She doesn’t have that kind of ability.”
Maxwell pressed his lips, still carrying that distant atmosphere that kept people away.
Sierra, on the other hand, had little interest in the farce in front of her. She could more or less see what each person was thinking and what each line really meant. After spending so much time around John, she had gradually learned how to tell whether someone meant well.
“Then why not skip the test altogether? It’s only a formality anyway.” Peter clearly enjoyed stirring the pot. “Charlie and I are both willing to give the shares to our niece, so we might as well sign the contract right now.”
The moment he said that, the room went silent.
Charlie looked at him like he wanted to tear him apart.
“What do you think, Charlie?” Peter asked on purpose.
“That works too.” Charlie still kept the calm dignity expected of being the patriarch of the family, and his gaze shifted naturally to Sierra. “It mainly depends on what Sierra wants.”
Peter smiled at once. ‘Oh, Charlie. You were willing to say anything just to look like a good uncle.’
“Alright,” Sierra agreed without hesitation, her gaze moving between the two of them. “If you both have time, we can sign the contract right now.”
Peter fell silent, and so did Charlie. The two of them froze for a long time, not saying a word.
They had thought Sierra had the same temperament as Anna. She was supposed to be proud and stubborn. People like that always wanted to win through their own ability.

And yet now…
“Do you have any other concerns?” Sierra played along.
“No.” At that point, Peter went along with Sierra’s words. After all, the anxious one was Charlie. “I’ll have someone prepare the contract right now. We’ll sign it here.”
Charlie shot Peter a sharp glare. ‘This idiot of a brother!‘
Peter didn’t care. Charlie loved putting up a show, right? Then keep acting.
Anger burned in Charlie’s chest. He truly hadn’t expected Anna’s daughter to have so little pride. She actually wanted to buy the shares back at the original price without giving up anything.
“Joey, go get the contract ready,” Peter said. “Let’s settle the shares tonight, then handle the transfer tomorrow.”
A faint smile touched Joey’s lips. “Okay.”
The next second, he raised a hand and snapped his fingers.
Skyler appeared carrying a briefcase, still dressed like the polished secretary he always was. “Sir.”
Joey held out a hand. “Take out the contract I told you to prepare this morning.”
