Chapter 508
“Give it to me. I’ll sign first.”
Peter deliberately tried to leave Charlie with no way out. He was completely sure this contract would never go through, so he might as well keep stirring things up.
“She’s our niece. We should give her what belongs to her.”
Vivian took the initiative and gave her husband a way out. “The shares are too important. It’s better to follow the rules.”
Sierra looked at her. “What rules?”
Vivian answered gently, “Any younger member of the King family who acquires shares has to go through a test.”
“More than twenty years ago, my mother was forced out of the King family, and Mr. Cyrus removed her from the family registry at the same time.” Sierra made them face their own shamelessness. “In other words, I’m not one of the younger members of the King family.”
“What happened back then was just Dad acting on impulse. But by blood, both you and your mother are part of the King family.” Vivian’s tone stayed gentle.
“Where’s the proof?” Sierra asked.
Vivian froze. “What proof?”
Sierra didn’t soften it. “Proof that my mother and I are part of the King family.”
“Everyone in Harbor City knows Anna is Dad’s daughter. What more proof do you need?” Vivian found the question absurd.
“So, by your logic, as long as enough people assume something is correct, that makes it proof.” Sierra’s words were sharp. “Even if it has no legal standing.”
“Well…” Vivian had no response to that.
“The contract says Anna’s descendants can buy back the shares at the original price. There are no other conditions.” Sierra tore straight through their act. “People who aren’t on the family registry don’t have to follow the King family’s family rules.”
A few simple lines silenced the room.
No one had expected a delicate young woman would be this tough.
“Enough. Since you’re all willing to sell the shares directly to Sierra, I won’t stop you.” Cyrus finally spoke. “The contract is right here. Sign it.”
“Dad…” Vivian tried again. “It’s still better to handle this according to the original rules.”

Loren joined in. “Word has already gotten out that Sierra would have to pass the test to get the shares back. If we hand them over directly now, it would bring negative attention to the King family.”
“Exactly,” Vivian quickly said.
Charlie kept his eyes lowered, enraged. He had never expected a game of charade to turn into this kind of mess.
“Maxwell, what do you think?” He pushed the responsibility onto his eldest at once. “You’re the president of King Group. You understand the market and the risks better than anyone. Would giving her the shares directly have any impact?”
Maxwell’s dark eyes settled on him, the warning in Charlie’s gaze was obvious. If he dared side with Sierra, Charlie would never forgive him.
“Everyone in Harbor City knows Sierra is Aunt Anna’s daughter. If the shares are sold to her directly right now, it could easily stir up public opinion.” Maxwell spoke from an objective angle. “To be safe, it’s better to follow the original plan.”
