John ignored Robin and walked straight toward the door.

Robin did not try to stop him. He turned and stared at John’s figure as he said, “If you go for that run, I’ll call Ms. Bell and tell her how little you care about yourself after the divorce.”

John stopped.

Cold sweat broke out across Robin’s back.

He knew threatening his boss was dangerous, but if he did not do it this way, John might really wear himself down one day.

“Do you have so much free time?” John’s face gave nothing away.

“Yes.” Robin kept his expression professional, though his heart was pounding. “You’ve already done all my work for me, so I’ve had nothing to do these past few days.”

The pressure coming from John did not soften at all. “Alright.”

Robin felt even more uneasy.

What did that mean?

“The company does not pay people to sit around,” John said evenly. “Since you’re so free, go help those people clean up the mess they made. I’ll review the results after the holiday.”

“Isn’t that their job?” Robin had not expected that answer at all.

“You failed to supervise them properly. That makes it your job too,” John said.

Robin fell silent.

Then, he immediately changed his tune. “I’m suddenly not free anymore.”

John’s expression did not change, but the pressure coming off him was becoming even more intense. “Free or not, keep an eye on them from the shadows. Solomon has been making a lot of moves lately. Don’t let him find an opening.”

“Understood.” Robin had no choice but to agree.

John gave a nod and turned away.

Before he could start his jog, Robin suddenly raised his phone to his ear and said in a serious voice, “Hello, Ms. Bell?”

Before he could finish, John snatched the phone out of his hand.

But when John saw there was no call on the screen, his eyes became dangerous.

Robin felt a chill run through his spine, but he still forced himself to speak. “I just don’t want you to do anything that could hurt your body. You’ve barely slept these past few days. Jogging in that condition is dangerous.”

“Your job is to be the personal assistant to the CEO of Henderson Group. Nothing more.” John handed the phone back to Robin and walked off without another glance.

Robin knew he should not interfere, but John had treated him well for years. He did not want anything to happen to him.

With that in mind, he called Kenneth.

By the time Kenneth arrived, John had already finished his run and showered. When he walked into the living room without so much as a greeting, John only said indifferently, “What is it?”

Kenneth stared at him.

John looked alert and composed. His face was a little thinner and worn–out, but not enough to stand out. He looked nothing like the man Robin had described.

“Nothing much.” Kenneth gave a light cough to cover the awkwardness, then remembered the harsh things he had said earlier and slipped back into his usual sharp tongue. “I just came to see how you’re doing after divorcing Sierra.”

John calmly raised his glass and took a sip of water. His hair was still slightly damp, falling across his forehead. He looked as elegant and restrained as ever.

Looking at that same ridiculously handsome face, Kenneth instantly regretted coming.

He suddenly understood something

Even though John and Sierra are divorced now, as long as John worked through his whole issue with keeping promises, winning Sierra’s forgiveness would not actually be that hard.

He was handsome.

He knew how to own up to his mistakes.
