Because Maxwell had already let the company know of Sierra’s arrival, she had no trouble getting into the CEO’s office at King Group. After Winnie brought in two cups of coffee, she left to give them some

room to talk.

“Made up your mind?” Maxwell asked.

Sierra nodded. “Yeah.”

“This is the assessment task book.” Maxwell handed her a file without explaining much. “Your task is to bring this company back to life and back on its feet, then make a net profit of one million dollars. Employee turnover rate must remain within normal range.”

Sierra took the file and flipped through the first two pages.

The company had a proper structure, simple departmental hierarchy, and only a few dozen employees. Its main business was developing medical software for major hospitals.

She had never worked in that field before.

“Since you never went through the family’s formal training, I’ll give you one chance to back out.” Maxwell looked at her without much emotion in his eyes, cool and distant as ever. “Go home now, and I’ll still give you your ten million dollars a year.”

“Can I hire people?” Sierra asked.

“Yes. The hiring guidelines are in there.”

“As long as the company’s net profit reaches one million, the task is considered complete, right?” Sierra closed the file.

“Yes.” Maxwell nodded.

Sierra asked again, “And on the day I complete it, you’ll sell me twenty percent of King Group’s shares at the original price?”

“That’s right,” Maxwell answered.

“Good.” Sierra already had a rough plan in mind. “I hope you keep your word when that day comes.” (1

Maxwell had Winnie walk Sierra out. As he watched her walking further away, a rare sternness appeared on his usually unreadable face.

A moment later, he took out his phone and called Cyrus. “I gave her the assignment.”

“Right,” Cyrus said. He still trusted Maxwell a lot. “Keep an eye on your father and your Uncle Peter during this time. Don’t let them pull anything in the shadows.”

“According to the rules, no one can step in even if outside forces interfere,” Maxwell reminded him.” That’s part of the test too.”

Cyrus opened his mouth, but before he could speak, Maxwell continued icily, “Loren, Joey, and I all went through the same thing.”

“You all grew up in the King family, and you’re men. That was exactly how it should have been.” Cyrus only wanted Sierra to run the company in peace. He didn’t want anyone getting in her way. “Sierra’s a girl…”

“Grandpa,” Maxwell cut him off.

Cyrus frowned.

Maxwell sounded more serious than usual. “Why don’t you try trusting her?”

Cyrus went silent for a moment, then finally put on an angry tone and reprimanded him. “You just don’t want to help! Why are you bringing all of this up?”

“She may not have gone through formal training in the family, but she had spirit.” Maxwell’s tone was calm and rational. “She may handle this assignment better than Joey did.”

“Of course.” Cyrus felt both fondness and frustration toward that unmotivated grandson of his. “She’s your Aunt Anna’s daughter, after all.”
