Robin still remembered how furious John had been two days earlier when he reported what was happening with Sierra.
John questioned Robin if he had forgotten everything he had told him before. He even said that if Robin couldn’t handle being his personal assistant, he should resign.
And yet, he had done so much himself behind the scenes.
“It wasn’t me.” John leaned back in his chair, his dark eyes giving nothing away.
“Then who was it?” Robin frowned, then suddenly came up with a bold guess. “Could it have been one of Sierra’s other admirers?”
John’s eyes grew darker as he bit his lip and said nothing.
“If you don’t move faster, Ms. Bell might really end up with someone else,” Robin said, getting nervous again. ‘ With her current status as a long–lost member of both the King family and the Lynch family, don’t you think a whole line of suitors is going to show
up?
E
They would.
John knew that perfectly well.
Most of them would be greedy men, hoping to use Sierra to force their way into the King and Lynch family, becoming a member of two of the four major families through her.
“If they really liked her, that would be one thing,” Robin said, laying it out piece by piece. “But you know as well as I do that most of the men chasing her now are after simply there for their own ambitions.”
John stayed silent.
Robin went on. “Do you really want Ms. Bell ending up with some scheming man who’s only after what she can give him?”
“She won’t remarry that soon.” John was not sure whether he was trying to convince Robin or himself. “With her mother around, those men won’t be able to take advantage of her.”
And it was not just her mother now. She also had Cyrus and Nathan looking out for her. None of them would stand by and watch Sierra end up with some greedy opportunist.
“You may be right, but that’s something decided by fate,” Robin said, saying everything he could to make John take action. “If Ms. Bell really likes someone, her mother probably won’t stop her.”
John still said nothing.
Robin then added, “Besides, marriage wouldn’t even be the worst part.”
John looked at him. What could be worse than marriage?
“If Sierra ends up dating some young man barely in his twenties who’s out of his diapers, that would be the real disaster.” Robin sounded completely serious. “They’re young, full of energy, and know how to charm a woman…
“Did you finish what I told you to do?” John’s aura turned colder by the second.
Robin froze. What was that?
John reminded him in a cold voice. “The holiday ends tomorrow.”

“I’ll get right on it.” Robin shut his mouth at once, realizing his attempt to persuade him had failed. “Call me if you need anything.”
As soon as Robin left, John tapped open Sierra’s contact. After hesitating, he sent her a message.
[Do you need help?]
After that, he typed another line.
[If you need anything, call me anytime. Even though we’re divorced, I…]
But before he could finish, Sierra sent back a cold reply.
[No.]
Then came another message.
