“Sierra, where are you?” Kenneth sounded anxious, speaking faster than usual. “Something happened to John. Can you come to Jade City?”

Sierra froze. “What happened to him?”

“He collapsed. He’s in the hospital now.” Kenneth tried to explain as clearly as he could.

The tightness in Sierra’s chest eased a little.

For the past month, no one had mentioned John in front of her. John had not contacted her, either. She was so swamped with work and stressed about every dinner that she had no free time to think about anything else.

That was why when she heard something had happened to him, her heart tightened on instinct.

“He’s been doing really badly this whole time.” Kenneth stood outside the hospital room, looking through the small window at the man lying in bed, pale and exhausted. “Can you come see him?”

Sierra was silent for a moment. “I’m not a doctor. It won’t help even if I go there.”

Kenneth grew even more anxious. “You haven’t even seen him. How do you know it won’t help?”

Kenneth kept trying to persuade her. “For the sake of how well he had treated you all those years, please just come see him once. You can leave after he wakes up, alright?”

“I’m sorry.” Sierra forced down her emotions and refused. “I have a lot on my plate. I’m hanging up now.”

Sierra held the phone in her hand, her emotions running wild in her heart. If it were not serious, Kenneth would not have contacted her.

Robin said nothing. He only looked at Kenneth.
