Chapter 545
“Can I talk to you?” Kenneth asked after he had gathered up a lot of courage.
“Sure,” Sierra said.
The two of them went into the lounge inside the private ward.
After glancing at John on the bed, Kenneth looked away. “Before we talk, I need to apologize for what I said about you behind your back yesterday. I’m sorry.”
Sierra did not care about that, so she said nothing.
“I didn’t ask you to come here because I want you to get back together with him, and I didn’t ask because I want things to go back to how they were before.” Kenneth had calmed down, and he seemed much calmer as well. “I just want you to help him let go of what’s eating at him. If this keeps up, he really will die.”
Sierra believed that.
On the surface, John looked like a polished gentleman. He was gentle and strong. However, he could be terrifying as well when he turned that ruthlessness on himself.
Sierra had seen that clearly the last time he drove a knife into his own body.
“If you can, I’d like to ask you to stay here for a few days and talk to him after he wakes up.” Kenneth sounded sincere. “If you don’t want to, I won’t force you. Like you said, you’re already divorced.”
Sierra did not agree right away. “You should continue first.”
Kenneth paused for a moment. Emotions churned in him, and he said, “I want to tell you his past.”
If he had any other choice, he would never have told Sierra any of this.
Five years ago, John had specifically told him not to mention his past in front of her. However, silence was no longer an option for him.
If Kenneth said nothing, Sierra might take one look at John and leave. If he told her, she might stay and wait for John.
Sierra paused for a moment before nodding. “Alright.”
“It all started when he was little…” Kenneth began, his voice heavy as his thoughts drifted back into the past.
John’s birth had been a joyful event for the entire Henderson family. His parents were thrilled, and his grandfather adored him. He was the treasure of the family.
After he turned two, his life changed completely.
His family forced him to learn all kinds of things. At an age when he could barely write his own name, his days were already packed with one lesson after another. If he showed even a little laziness or wanted to play, his parents, and even his grandfather, would scold him. He did not even have time to rest or play.
He met Kenneth, Lucy, and Albion in those classes, and the four of them became friends. Only after meeting them did his suffocating life become more bearable.
From then on, he endured all the pressure at home in silence.
When he was around five or six, there was some friction between the families. His parents ordered him to cut ties
with Albion and made him promise never to have any contact again.

John refused. For that, his father berated him, and his mother threatened him with her life. They thought he was being disobedient, rebellions.
John was forced to give in after being driven into a corner. He grew quiet and withdrawn. Even when he ran into them at school, he stopped talking to them.
Even then, Albion still treated him like his best friend. If he did not want to talk, Albion would tease him. If he did not want to smile, Albion would keep trying to make him laugh.
“He was under terrible pressure back then.”
Even now, Kenneth still remembered those years clearly.
“His parents had people watching him around the clock. If there was even the slightest chance he might get close to us, he’d get scolded the moment he got home. Not only that, his mother would threaten him with her life and ask if he was forcing her to kill herself. His father would then say, ‘Look what you’ve done to your mother. Can’t you just be a little more sensible?”
In Sierra’s mind, she could already see a quiet little boy who barely spoke.
“Was the conflict between the families really that serious?”
“Not at all.” Kenneth knew some of it himself and he heard some of it from the older generation. “Albion’s father got a business deal John’s father wanted, and he ended up with nothing.”
