Chapter 547
A shiver ran down Sierra’s spine.
If they could go that far just because a boy could not swim, wouldn’t they be brutal in other things?
Sierra could not remember much from her childhood, but she still remembered the night she saved John. Several adults had been standing by the riverbank. She had told them someone had fallen into the water and begged them to save him.
They simply said, “We can’t swim.”
She couldn’t remember their tone anymore, but she knew John’s cries for help were growing weaker and weaker. In a panic, she had not stopped to think before jumping in and pulling him out. After they reached the shore, two men in black came over and took John away from her side.
At the time, she had not thought much of it. Looking back now, they had probably been from the Henderson family.
“Why did you suddenly ask that?” Kenneth knew she would not bring it up for no reason.
“It’s nothing.” Sierra said no more, though her feelings about it all were getting complicated. “I can’t agree to what you asked. I’m not a psychologist, and I can’t promise I can make him recover.”
“He doesn’t need to fully recover. You just need to stay by his side for a month. No! Just a week is enough!” Kenneth quickly changed his tune, already hearing a sliver of hope in her answer. “After that week, leave the rest to me. ”
“Alright,” Sierra nodded.
Surprise flashed appeared in Kenneth’s eyes. “You’re really agreeing to this?”
“Yes,” Sierra said.
Kenneth finally let out a sigh of relief, and the tension in his heart eased.
Sierra glanced toward the hospital bed. Seeing that John was still lying there motionless, she asked, “Is he so fixated on promises because Danny and the others broke the promises they made to him?”
“That was only part of it.” Kenneth told her everything he knew. “The biggest reason was that after he finished handling Albion’s funeral, he went to ask Danny why he had broken his promise. They told him a promise was something meant to be broken. They also told him nobody in this world would keep a promise perfectly.”
Sierra said nothing. In a sense, vows and promises could both be broken someday in the future. But… Never at the cost of human lives.
“John stubbornly told them he could do it.” Kenneth felt a heaviness in his chest. “So when Pamela used the fact that she had saved his life to demand that he support her and take care of her, he couldn’t refuse. If he did, Danny and the others would use that against him.”
Kenneth understood how John’s train of thoughts went, but the way John handled it was far too extreme.
Meanwhile, Sierra looked out the window, no one could tell what she was thinking.
Kenneth noticed the shift in Sierra’s mood. “Are you still upset about everything that happened between you because of Pamela?”

“What do I need to do over the next few days?” Sierra asked instead, her expression still cold.
What mattered most to her from the very beginning was never that John wanted to take care of Pamela because she had saved his life.
What mattered was his attitude at the beginning, and the way he kept targeting her and suppressing her because of Pamela.
He had never treated her as an equal.
