Chapter 552
Chapter 552

John did not like it when others showed him pity or sympathy. He did not want anyone treating him differently because of what he had been through.
If he found out Kenneth had told her about his past, and that was the reason why she stayed, he would definitely pull away from her and treat her coldly.
But… So what?
Sierra did not care how he felt he had toward her. She could handle anything else, as long as he didn’t hold onto her or make choices for her without asking first like he used to.
She had come because of the five years‘ worth of good memories and because he was Tommy’s father. It was also true that she had stayed because she felt bad for what he had been through, but feeling bad for his past did not mean she would succumb into it again.
As long as there was no love, none of his emotions could affect her.
“You’re right,” Marcus said. Seeing that she truly did not care, he said nothing more.
That afternoon, Sierra had Marcus bring her laptop. She sat by John’s bedside and worked on the proposal, checking on him from time to time as he slept.
Later that night, Sierra stayed at the hospital until a little after ten before returning to Campanile Estate.
Grant and the other servants were all delighted to see her again. “Ms. Bell, you’re finally back. Would you like to have supper? I’ll have the kitchen prepare something.”
Everyone took their turn to speak to Sierra with warmth.
Sierra greeted them one by one. After eating a simple supper, she went upstairs to rest. It had been two months since she had last stayed here, yet nothing in the room had been moved.
She took a shower and lay down on the bed.
Being back in this room gave her a strange feeling. She thought she would not be able to sleep, but she dozed off not long after lying down. She even dreamed about John.
In her dream, John was treated terribly at home. His grandfather was harsh while his parents kept comparing him to others and demanding that he be the best. Solomon, his older brother, watched coldly from the side and schemed against him.
John was bruised and miserable, yet he kept pushing forward.
It was at this time that her phone chimed.
Sierra jolted awake from her dream. The last image from the dream stayed in her mind. John, around five years old, was looking at her with painful eyes, as though begging her to save him.
She rubbed her head and forced the image away. She picked up her phone and opened the message Robin had sent while still a little groggy.
[Mr. Henderson is awake.]
Sierra immediately sat up before throwing off the blanket on her and got out of bed.
The moment her feet slipped into her slippers, she stopped. Her rationale pulled her back. If she went now, everyone would think she still loved John. Even John himself would think she cared about him.
She checked the time. It was only a little past three in the morning. She put the phone down, pulled the blanket back over herself, and went back to sleep.

Sierra arrived at the hospital with Marcus at seven the next morning
John was still awake. He had no appetite at all as he was just looking at the breakfast in front of him.
Robin tried to persuade him to eat something. “I’ll tell you something if you eat your breakfast.”
John didn’t respond as his gaze drifted to the chair where Sierra had been sitting.
Was it a hallucination?
It had to be.
Otherwise, why would he dream that Sierra had come? She hated him. She was disgusted with him. There was no way she would come here again.
“The doctor said you’re not in great shape,” Robin went on. “If you keep pushing yourself like this, you might really end up killing yourself.”
“I know what I’m doing,” John said calmly.
Robin tried not to roll his eyes. “If you really did, you wouldn’t have collapsed and ended up in the hospital.”
John remained adamant. “Go and get the discharge paperwork done.”
“No,” Robin said.
John looked at him, his stare slowly putting pressure on Robin. “If you still think of yourself as the CEO’s personal assistant at Henderson Group, then go do it.”
“If I do, you’ll regret it,” Robin warned him.
If he stayed in the hospital, Sierra might come visit. But if he was discharged, there was no doubt that Sierra would not even give him a single glance.
