John’s expression darkened at Robin’s refusal to obey his orders. Just as he was about to yell at him, the door into his ward opened and Sierra walked inside. She was wearing something casual today.
John turned at the sound, and his eyes opened wide the moment he saw her.
Sierra…
She looked thinner.
There was also a new steadiness to her, as if she had grown through experience. What had she gone through?
“Ms. Bell. You made it.” Robin greeted her at once and asked with concern, “Have you eaten breakfast?”
“I did,” Sierra said.
“Mr. Henderson still hasn’t eaten, so…” Robin said.
Sierra raised her eyes and met John’s passionate gaze. Then, their eyes met with each other. Her eyes were cold and distant, but his were warm and full of passion.
Robin quietly stepped out after seeing that and gently closed the door behind him.
John pressed his lips. His voice was a little hoarse from sleeping too long, and his eyes stayed on her, unwilling to look away even for a second. “You came yesterday, didn’t you?”
What he had sensed in the dark had not been a hallucination.
It was truly her.
“Yes.” Sierra controlled herself as her gaze turned to John’s breakfast. Her tone remained distant as he said, “Eat. We can talk after you’re done.”
John ate as he was told, his eyes barely left her the whole time. She had only said he was not allowed to show up in her line of sight. It did not count as breaking their agreement when she was the one willingly walked into his life.
“Sierra,” John called softly, unable to hold himself back anymore.
Sierra looked at him as if he were someone unimportant, but John did not care. As long as she stayed by his side, as long as he could still see her, he would take it even if she left him hurt.
“How have you been lately?” John asked, saying exactly what was on his mind directly. “Can you handle things with the King family?”
Sierra answered in a formal, detached tone. “I’m doing fine, thank you. I can handle them.”
“If you need help, say so,” John said.
“Eat first,” Sierra said.
“Alright,” John replied.
Ten minutes later, John finished his breakfast.
Sierra opened the door and called Robin in. Once Robin saw that all the food was gone, the worry in his mind eased a little. Even so, he lowered his voice and said to Sierra before leaving, “He usually gets nauseous about half an hour after he eats. If that happens later, please let me know.”
“Does that happen every day?” Sierra asked.
It was rare for her to ask anything.

“Most days,” Robin said.
Sierra nodded. “Okay.”
For the next half hour, she kept an eye on John. After watching him for a while, she saw that he seemed fine.
Since Sierra hadn’t really talked to him since she got there, John thought about it a lot before he asked the question he knew he shouldn’t. “Did Robin and Kenneth ask you to come?”
“No,” Sierra said.
Something flickered in John’s eyes.
She had come on her own?
“Solomon asked me to,” Sierra said bluntly. “I made a deal with him earlier. I came this time to keep it.”
John’s eyes darkened. She still did not like him. She would not even bother lying to him.
But now that she was here, he had no intention of pushing her away. He said, “I’ve missed you.”
