He walked right past Marcus and asked Grant beside him, "Where's Sierra?"
Grant answered politely, "Ms. Bell is upstairs."
Solomon headed for the stairs at once as if this was his own home, but Marcus quickly stepped in front of him.
Solomon looked at Marcus. He stared at the unfamiliar face for a moment.
Before he could speak, Marcus said, "Sir, upstairs is a private area. Going up without the owner's permission is not appropriate."
"Do you know who I am?" Solomon asked.
"More or less." Marcus's tone stayed calm. "My boss's ex-husband's older brother."
Solomon said nothing.
The butler and the others said nothing, either. Everyone froze for a moment at that answer.
"Please have a seat on the sofa." Marcus spoke one word at a time, his face as serious as ever. "If there's anything you need, I can pass it along."
Solomon stared at him. His gaze was heavy with pressure even behind his glasses. However, Marcus did not budge.
"Did Sierra bring a woman back with her?" Solomon asked, pulling back some of that pressure.
He had already reached the conclusion that this man was probably someone John had arranged to stay by Sierra's side.
"That's my boss's private business. I can't answer that for you." Marcus sounded like a machine, every word formal and official. "If you'd like, I can pass the question along."
Solomon's eyes turned cold.
Marcus asked again, "Any other questions?"
Solomon said nothing.
Marcus went on, "If not, please sit over there. I'll go upstairs and relay your question."
"No more." Solomon turned and walked toward the sofa.
"Is there a problem?" Solomon asked.
"What exactly is your relationship with Tammy?" Sierra asked on purpose.
With Solomon's temperament, he would never admit the truth about Tammy. As long as he refused to admit it, Sierra had every reason not to hand Tammy over.
Solomon studied Sierra closely behind his glasses. Meanwhile, Sierra met his gaze without backing down.
Neither of them gave an inch to the other person.
After a long moment, Solomon adjusted his glasses and spoke in the same calm tone as always. "You already know, don't you?"
Sierra gave him the same answer she had used at the hospital. "Friends?"
"Right." Something about Solomon seemed slightly off, though his tone barely changed. "Can you hand her over now?"
"No." Sierra refused without hesitation.
