"You think I don’t know how your body reacts?" Solomon said slowly. With those glasses on, he looked even more like a cultured scumbag. "Was someone who could stay awake through so many rounds in one night going to pass out from exhaustion?"
A flicker of discomfort appeared on Tammy's expression, but her heart was chilled. How was she supposed to go against someone like Solomon?
"Then why didn’t you expose me?" Tammy asked.
"If you wanted to, I was willing to play along," Solomon said as his hands roamed over Tammy’s body again. "It also gave you a chance to see certain things clearly, so you would stop getting unrealistic ideas every now and then."
The truth was, however, Solomon had only realized that Tammy had faked the unconsciousness that morning. Instead of calling him first to explain what had happened, she came back and said she wanted to talk, which clearly meant something was wrong. On top of that, the redness in her eyes was impossible to hide.
He had almost realized right away that she hadn't slept at all the night earlier. The reason was probably that Sierra had said something to her and left her thinking about it all night.
"Do you want to end things with me?" Solomon asked.
Tammy met his eyes. After a long silence, she answered, "Yes."
"Sierra is Sierra, and you are you," Solomon said. He pulled his hand back and lightly squeezed her fingers. "You were not born into a wealthy family. You did not grow up with loving parents, and you don’t have rich friends to catch you if you fall. No matter what she told you, her advice does not fit your life."
Tammy pressed her lips and said nothing, but her heart kept becoming colder.
"When Sierra left John, it was basically a pampered woman getting her first experience of real life." Solomon's gentle voice went on. "If you leave me, you won’t be stepping into freedom. You’ll be falling from darkness into the dark, infinite abyss."
"I understand." Tammy knew he was warning her not to hold any delusions.
This time, he would let it pass him by. But if there was a next time, he would make sure she remembered the consequences of her actions.
"Don't see Sierra again." Solomon picked her up with his arms and carried her upstairs. After setting her on the bed, he lowered his voice. "I don't like her."
Tammy pressed her red lips, her heart slowly sinking.
He ignored it. His lips moved from her earlobe to her neck, marking every inch of skin with his presence.
"You should answer it. What if it's something important?" Tammy only wanted this intimacy to stop.
Solomon did not want to bother, but the loud ringing was too irritating. He picked up the phone, ready to hang up, but the moment he saw the caller's name, his brows furrowed together.
He got off Tammy and answered the call.
"Is this Solomon?" A clear, pleasant female voice asked from the other end. "This is Maya. I am back in the country. When should we meet and talk?"
Solomon paused.
If not for this call, he would have almost forgotten that his parents were trying to set him up with the second daughter of the Jones family.
