Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 590

"Yes, we did," Sierra said.

Charlie then asked, "Have you resolved the reason for your divorce then?"

"It's minor compared to the future of the King family," Sierra said. "I'm willing to put my personal feelings aside and join forces with John to make the King family stronger."

Charlie blinked. He said nothing, but he was already cursing her out in his mind. Still, he had worked so hard to build the image of a good uncle. He couldn't drop the act now.

"Marriage isn't a game. You still need to think it through carefully," Charlie said as he shifted his tone and spoke earnestly. "I care more about your happiness compared to the future of the King family."

"Since you care about me so much, the more reason I can't simply give up on the King family's future for my own selfish reasons," Sierra said.

Charlie fell silent again before glancing at Maxwell. What did he want to talk to Sierra about again? How did this suddenly involve the future of the King family?

"If there's nothing else, I need to leave for a while," Sierra said. She stood up, her tone polite but distant. "I've been back for a while and still haven't talked to Mom."

"Go ahead," Charlie said.

Sierra gave a slight nod and left.

As Charlie watched Sierra go upstairs, he frowned and said to Maxwell, "Don't you think Sierra is a little different now compared to when we first met her?"

Maxwell played dumb. "Has she?"

"She's not as straightforward as Anna anymore. She's picked up some of Nathan's shamelessness," Charlie said as he stated his opinion.

"It's not that bad," Maxwell said as he agreed with Charlie's evaluation of Sierra. "Everyone in this circle says things the other person wants to hear, don't we?"

Charlie's eyes darkened, somewhat upset with what Maxwell was saying.

However, Maxwell's expression did not change. He still carried that same cold distance that kept everyone at arm's length.

After going upstairs, Sierra headed straight for the study. Before she even went in, she already saw Nathan standing quietly beside Anna's desk, acting like an assistant.

At first, she treated him the same way she always had, cold and distant. She had hoped that he would feel guilty enough to leave on his own just like earlier. Instead, he started shamelessly listing every way he had failed her and begging for forgiveness.

It didn't take long before Anna ran out of ways to deal with him, but he still refused to go.

He even made the excuse sound noble. He said he wanted to spend the rest of his life making up for the past until the day she was willing to forgive him.

At the time, she told him that day would never come.

"Then I'll keep making up for it in our next life. I'm already satisfied enough just staying by your side and doing whatever I can," Nathan answered without hesitation.

Anna could not be bothered arguing with him after that. She had already let him go completely.

Since he wanted to work for free, she wasn't going to stop him. She was not going to be the one to be embarrassed if the outside world found out about this.

So, she let him do as he pleased.
