"You wouldn't," John said into the phone before Solomon could answer whether he would actually realize his threats. "You care about profit more than anything."
"Stay out of our business," Solomon said, referring to Tammy and him. He did not waste time and repeated the warning. "I suppose we're now even after I meddled in Sierra's business earlier. From now on, we stay out of each other's lives."
John's lips curved faintly. "Is this your first day knowing me?"
Solomon's face darkened. "What do you want, then?"
John did not answer and merely hung up.
Robin had heard the whole call from the side. Once he was sure it was over, he asked carefully, "Do you need me to prepare anything?"
"No," John said.
"And Solomon..." Robin still could not tell what John was thinking.
John and Solomon had crossed each other many times, but their conflict had always been in the shadows. They had never been this direct and out in the open.
"Just keep an eye on the King family," John said, the intentions behind his dark eyes unreadable. "Don't worry about Solomon."
Maybe one day Solomon would lose his head over love too, but that day was not now and it would not come anytime soon. Nothing in this world could make Solomon give up power and his own benefits. He was a lot like Danny that way.
Back then, if Henderson Group had not been under pressure from every side, Danny would never have handed over the shares and part of his authority to him after he had won the competition. He would have held on to power for the rest of his life and kept both John and Solomon under his thumb.
Solomon called John again, and his phone vibrated.
John picked up. "What now?"
"Stay out of whatever is going on between Tammy and me, and I'll tell you about one of our father's plans," Solomon said after thinking it over. "It has to do with Sierra."
If it had been anyone else, he would not have said a word. However, John knew too much about what had happened between him and Tammy.
"Not interested," John said.
Solomon truly did not understand. They had seen plenty of their father's dirty handiwork since they were young. Even his childhood friend had been driven to jump off a building because of him. Things had already come to this, but why was John still this stubborn?
"Pass a message to him," John said. "If he's going to do the same thing he did on Albion on Sierra, then I'll use that same method to send him to see our grandfather. Don't act like he doesn't know what I'll do after he fails."
"He's your father," Solomon reminded him.
John did not deny it. "So?"
He was not Solomon. He had no reason to care what other people thought.
Sierra was the love of his life. If anyone touched her, he would retaliate without hesitation and use every method he had at his disposal.
At that moment, Solomon finally understood the difference between himself and John. He was always under his father's control even when he was controlling the game board. On the surface, he obeyed Danny. In secret, he had also been plotting for his own benefit.
John was different. If someone crossed him, he would tear him or her apart without a second thought.
