Daniel said to Nathan who appeared after Sierra left, "I wanted to see how much progress you've made these past few days trying to win your wife and daughter back."
Nathan said nothing.
Daniel didn't hesitate to give Nathan a piece of his mind. "From the looks of it, you've made no progress at all."
"If you hadn't been the greatest obstacle between us back then, would things have turned out like this at all?" Nathan knew he had been at fault too, but Daniel was hardly innocent out of all this.
"You couldn't clean up your own mess back then and now you're blaming me?" Daniel said bluntly. "Don't say I didn't warn you. The annual shareholders meeting is coming up soon. When it does, your youngest uncle won't let this slide."
Nathan replied calmly, "You can't keep your own brother in line and that is somehow my problem?"
Daniel opened his mouth, but he only gave a cold snort in the end. While he was his younger brother, their parents had him a lot late in life. That left a wide gap between them to the point that he was actually closer in age to Nathan.
"Don't drag Sierra into this for now," Nathan said. He had not brought any of this up lately because some things were still under preparation. "Once everything is settled, I'll talk to her."
Daniel pressed his lips tightly. In the end, he swallowed the words he had wanted to say. He did have a way to handle the trouble at the upcoming shareholders meeting, but if he said it out loud, his son would be upset. So, he relented. "Fine."
"Don't bring her to the estate again without letting me know," Nathan said. "If my uncle finds out, she could be under threat."
"You're only in your fifties and you're already this naggy." Daniel sounded annoyed and did not hold himself back at all. "What are you going to be like when you're my age?"
Nathan stayed calm as he said nothing and left. By the time he got back, Daniel and Sierra had already finished dinner. Knowing she did not want to see him, he had stayed out of sight. But it would not be long before what happened tonight reached his uncle.
That was when the real trouble would begin.
Daniel watched Nathan leave, his eyes full of mixed emotion. The weight in his chest is growing heavier. A moment later, he took out his phone and sent Sierra a message.
"The way Daniel looked at you wasn't how family looks at family," Tony said bluntly. "Maybe five percent of it was about building a bond with you as his granddaughter. The other ninety-five percent was about benefits."
Sierra thought it over. "He wants to use my connection to the King family?"
Daniel had brought up shares. Her mother had also told her before that the Lynch family was nowhere near as calm as it looked. Nathan had a younger uncle fighting him for power.
By that logic, was Daniel trying to use her connection to the King family to help deal with Nathan's uncle?
The thought vanished as soon as it appeared.
Even if the Lynch family and King family had a decent relationship, they still weren't exactly best friends. There was no way the Lynch family could borrow the King family's power through her.
