Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 618

Sierra's heart sank when she heard Anna's explanation. She had not expected Daniel to be thinking that far ahead.

"That's it, more or less." Anna said as she looked at Sierra with mixed emotions.

Anna had her issues with John, but she also had to admit that in some ways, he was thoroughly devoted to Sierra. She had not paid much attention earlier, but she had clearly noticed the extra layer of protection around the house during this time.

No one could really stop someone from truly wanting to protect another.

"I understand," Sierra said. She remained calm even when she understood everything now.

"Don't take it too seriously." Anna did not want her daughter to carry the weight of her own past. Sierra had every right to choose everything she wanted for herself. "No matter what you decide, I'll support you."

Sierra nodded in agreement.

After they talked a little longer, Anna told her to go back to her room and wait for the results.

Sierra did not ask any more questions as she went back to her room and lay down. The moment she touched the bed, her mind filled with everything her mother had said and everything John had done.

She did not want to admit it, but her mother's analysis was right. The reason Daniel wanted the shares transferred to her was because he valued John's support.

Thinking of that, she picked up her phone and opened her chat with John. Then, she typed out a message and sent it.

A short, distinct ringtone sounded when the message came through while John was in the shower. Without the slightest hesitation, he quickly dried his hands, then grabbed his phone with his hair still wet and soap still on his body.

Sierra's message came up on the screen.

It was the time and location of Tommy's birthday.

John replied at once. [Alright.]

Sierra paused.

He replied that fast?

She tried to think of something else to send, then realized there was no point. She turned off the screen and put the phone aside.

John waited for a while, but when no new message came, he set his phone back down. A few more message alerts sounded after that, but he ignored them. He knew they were not from Sierra. The unique ringtone he set for her never sounded again.

Sierra watched her leave, but her mother's wording gave her something else to think about.

Anna had always answered questions directly. Under normal circumstances, she would have said everything was normal, not that there was nothing suspicious.

Tony and Marcus...

The thought had barely formed before she pushed it aside.

No matter who Tony and Marcus really were, her mother's words meant they could be trusted. Since that was the case, there was no need for her to keep worrying about it.

-

At the same time…

Marcus walked into Tony's room and looked at him with open disdain.

"Don't look at me with such deep affection," Tony said in the same carefree tone as always. "Be careful, or I'll complain to Ms. Bell tomorrow and tell her you've got improper feelings for me, then have her fire you."
