Kenneth shot Robin a look and signaled for him to leave alongside him. It was better for those not related to stay away in a showdown between father-and-son-in-law. Otherwise, they might get caught in the crossfire.
"Only family members usually know things like that." Nathan took the remark calmly and stayed as calm as ever. "You and Sierra are no longer husband and wife. So, you're an outsider at most."
John replied at an unhurried pace. "So, you do know that."
Nathan's brows furrowed slightly. "Know what?"
"The fact you're Sierra's father has to be kept hidden because it damages your reputation." John did not care in the slightest about offending him. "Unlike my relationship with her, which was always out in the open."
Nathan gritted his teeth. His ex-son-in-law really was quite detestable!
Sensing the tension, Kenneth sped up and pulled Robin along even faster.
"You can't learn this from John," Kenneth warned Robin. It was the first time he had seen someone go head-to-head with his father-in-law like this. "You need to respect the elders of the woman you love. What he's doing is a dead-end."
"Got it," Robin said. He was not an idiot.
"Robin." John suddenly called out to the two men who were about to slip away.
Robin immediately slipped back into work mode and looked over with his usual seriousness. "Sir."
"Ask Sierra whether it's true that she's accepting Mr. Lynch as her father." While John was looking at Robin, every word was aimed at Nathan. "If it is, I should at least send a gift."
"Alright," Robin nodded.
"Stop." Nathan stopped him.
If this really reached Sierra's ears, that one percent chance of them recognizing each other as father and daughter might drop straight to zero.
John was still wearing the costume as he said, "Do you have something else to say, Mr. Lynch?"
"What you just said was wrong. I didn't need her to acknowledge it. I am Sierra's biological father." Nathan refused to back down as he walked up to John and lowered his voice near his ear. "You better think carefully about whether you really want your assistant to ask her that."
Nathan's brows furrowed. He gave in that quickly?
"I'll tell Sierra later that you are not a father worth acknowledging," John said in the same calm tone as ever. "Your need for control is too strong. You haven't done anything for her, and you're already trying to control who she marries."
Nathan narrowed his eyes, his expression darkened even more. It was as if he had never expected there could be someone even more brazen than he had been in his younger days.
"And while I'm at it, I'll remind Anna to choose carefully for her daughter's and her own freedom." John's voice came from inside the costume, and he was just as infuriating as ever.
Nathan fell silent.
Then his mouth turned into a faint smile. "Looks like you really don't want any chance with Sierra."
"Instead of worrying about me, you should spend that time figuring out how to get Anna to forgive you and how to make Sierra accept you," John said. "Your road to winning back your wife should be harder than mine."
As much as Nathan hated to admit it, John was right.
