Chapter 627

“Everyone who was supposed to be here is already here. Anyone dressed like that is obviously suspicious,” Holly said as he looked at John in the costume, and she was just as wary as she had no idea who was inside.

A man in a costume.

No face showing.

No talking.

It was hard not to be on their guard.

John blinked.

Sierra studied him for a moment. Then, thinking John still had not shown up, she added, “There’s still one person who hasn’t

come.”

“Who?” Holly asked.

Nicholas leaned in too, curious.

Sierra glanced toward Tommy. After a moment, she finally said, “John.”

Holly and Nicholas looked at each other. In a way, John really should have been there for Tommy’s fifth birthday. He was Tommy’s father, after all. But with how ugly things had gotten when he and Sierra divorced, would he really come?

“It’s me.” John’s voice came through, still muffled and distorted. “I already had someone send your and Tommy’s gift to the

villa.”

Something changed in Sierra’s eyes.

Every year on Tommy’s birthday, John had always prepared two gifts. One for Tommy and one for her. Now that they were divorced, he still had not broken that habit.

“Why are you dressed like this?” she asked smoothly.

“You said that after the divorce, you didn’t want to see me in front of you. As long as I can keep that promise, I should.”

John meant every word, and there was no other intention behind it.

To him, keeping Sierra safe and steady for the rest of her life was his first promise while not showing up in front of her was his second.

As for staying out of her business and leaving her affairs alone… That would depend on the situation.

If Kenneth could hear his thoughts, he would have applauded John for finally learning how to bend.

“You don’t have to keep it today.” Sierra had not expected him to take that promise so seriously as she spoke in the same calm tone. “Tommy’s over there playing with Lucy. Go say hello to him.”

“Alright,” John said.

The next second, he took off the head part of the costume and showed his face, looking a little leaner than before. Luckily, it was winter. Otherwise, he would have been drenched in sweat after wearing that costume for so long.

“From now on, just get Tommy one gift on his birthday. You don’t need to get one for me.” Sierra didn’t know what else to say, so she brought that up instead.

The less entanglement between her and John, the better. She was afraid that if everything that had happened before.

“I promised there will be two gifts, then there will always be two.” John was especially firm about that.

Despite how lively it was on the lawn, his dark eyes focused only on her.

“Five years ago on the same date today, Tommy was born and brought me joy. You went through so much to bring him into this world. I did nothing, yet I still got the child you worked so hard to bring to this world.”

Sierra’s feelings became complicated.

Even now, hearing those words still shook her.

“This was supposed to be for the three of us.” John took a flash drive from his pocket. “But now, it’s more appropriate to give it to you.”

Sierra took it. She could more or less guess what was on it.

“Come with me. We still haven’t taken the family photo for his fifth birthday.” John held out a hand to her.

Sierra did not take it. Instead, she just started walking toward Tommy.

From the day Tommy was born until now, they had taken one family photo together every year on his birthday. Even though they were divorced now, taking one more for Tommy to keep when he grew up was not a bad idea.

The two of them walked away one after the other. Even so, they still looked strangely right together. “See that?” Holly only spoke after they had gone farther away. She turned to Nicholas and said, “Learn from John. Every time I

all you use are the same old tricks. You need to take the lead and make Sierra choose.” tell you to go after someone,
