Regrets Come Too Late (Sierra and Johnny) novel Chapter 628

Nicholas fell silent when he heard that from Holly.

Holly kept pressing him. "If it were you, would you have stopped there without even reaching for her hand?"

Nicholas said nothing. Could he really say she was right?

"John's very shrewd." Holly had held a grudge against him for a long time, so nothing he did ever looked right to her. "Next time, I need to remind Sierra not to let John lead her around."

Nicholas stayed quiet. For once, he did not join Holly in criticizing John as he simply sat there in silence.

Holly noticed it right away and asked, "What's wrong with you? Don't tell me that got to you."

"I know why I lost." Nicholas suddenly said, his eyes following the direction Sierra and John had just left. "And I know why Sierra hasn't considered anyone else in the six months since the divorce."

Holly blinked. What was that supposed to mean? She reached over and touched his forehead.

"Is something wrong with you?"

"Don't you think John cares about Sierra even more than you do?" Nicholas no longer looked carefree. He looked at Holly with an expression that was more serious than ever.

"I know that," Holly said.

In some ways, John really had done better than she had. So, what? She would be Sierra's best friend for life, the one friend who would never change. No matter who came along, Sierra would always be her best friend. On that point, not even John could beat her!

"I always thought I could take good care of Sierra and be the best boyfriend in the world." Nicholas fully accepted this loss. "But just now, I realized I could never do that."

Holly paused, then quickly understood. "You mean the gift he prepared for Sierra?"

Sierra loved herself. But in some ways, John loved her even more than she did herself. As long as John could treat her well for the rest of her life, Nicholas was willing to let go completely.

"I wouldn't." As Sierra's number one best friend, Holly held grudges for a very long time. "Preparing two gifts definitely earns him points, but that doesn't erase what he did back then when he transferred the assets before the divorce."

A person could love someone and still do terrible things to them. Holly had never denied that John had treated Sierra well in many ways.

However, those were two different things.

If those two things could cancel each other out, then what would you call it when someone did a few loving things, then hit the other person, or betrayed them?

"We're on Sierra's side, so we can't speak for John." Holly said. "Why can't you even understand that?"
