Nathan went on and on, listing one good thing about John after another. When he looked at Anna again, he found her staring at him with open disgust.
He immediately asked, "What is it?"
Anna exposed him immediately. "Do you really think I can't tell when someone's just acting as the weaker person in the relationship? Or do you really believe your schemes are better than everyone else's?"
"Whatever do you mean?" Nathan instantly put on an act. "Why can't I understand what you're saying?"
Anna never had a kind word for him. "Then you really are stupid."
Nathan went quiet before putting on a wounded look. "Anna."
Anna stepped aside and could not be bothered with him.
Nathan followed her and deliberately stood a little closer, his shoulder nearly brushing hers.
"Mom!" After Sierra finished taking pictures with John and Tommy, she waved at Anna. "Come take one with us too."
Anna walked over.
Every year, they would call her over for a bigger one after the three of them finished their family photo. She stood beside Sierra. Just as the photographer was about to take the picture, Nathan appeared again and took his place next to her.
There was a click, and the photo was taken.
After that, they took another group photo with all their friends.
Once they were all done, Nathan went to the photographer and asked for the five-person photo from earlier. After he got it, he first cropped out everyone else and kept the part with him and Anna as his phone wallpaper. Then he cropped John out and saved a four-person version.
He posted it on his social media with the caption: [Family of four.]
Comments popped up almost at once.
[Boss Anna forgave you? When did you two get back together?]
[There should've been someone else standing next to the kid, right?]
[Not just someone. There's a ninety-nine percent chance it was John. Nathan, do you really need to lie to yourself like this?]
[Tsk, tsk, tsk.]
Nathan gulped and his whole body tensed without him noticing.
"Did you get our permission before posting our photo?" Anna still looked calm, but her eyes were giving off some pressure. "Do you think I won't sue you for using our picture without permission?"
"I just..." Nathan had never expected that even after hiding the post from her, she would still find out. He knew arguing would only make her angrier, so he only said, "I was wrong."
"Delete it," Anna said.
Nathan still wanted to struggle a little. "Anna."
"Or would you rather I do it myself?" Anna gave him a choice.
Nathan paused before remembering she was a hacker. Getting into his account and deleting the post would be easy for her.
He obediently took out his phone, tapped a few times, and held it out to her. "Look. I deleted it."
Anna looked.
Nathan blinked and started to sweat. For the first time in years, he could hear his own heart throbbing. Why did she actually check? Had she not always ignored him before this?
