"It looks like you still prefer to get things done through the court system." Anna tossed that sentence to Nathan and walked off, as if she was ready to call a lawyer and sue him.
Nathan quit trying to be cunning and he immediately unlocked his phone, deleting the post for real. Then he hurried after her with his freshly cleaned-up social media feed.
Watching them, John suddenly felt uneasy about his own chances. If Anna wouldn't let him be with Sierra, winning Sierra back might be even harder for him than it had been for Nathan.
Then he thought it through again.
Anna had always respected her children's choices. As long as Sierra still liked him and was willing to get back together with him, everything would work out.
"I'll take a few more pictures for you. Let's go over there." He did not say that he wanted to stay close to her outright, so he found something else to do instead. "The lighting and mood is better over there."
Sierra took Tommy with her.
John was very good with a camera. Whenever he photographed Sierra and Tommy, the pictures came out vivid and alive. His timing and framing were excellent. He kept taking pictures for a while. Sometimes he was taking photos. Sometimes he switched to video…
Nathan had just had a falling-out with Anna, and the longer he watched the three of them, the worse he felt. The more he looked at John, the more irritating John became. In the end, he walked over and interrupted them. "Let's talk."
"Hold on." John gave John two simple words.
Nathan gritted his teeth. "You really expect me to wait?"
John ignored him and kept filming. Nathan was about to speak again when John lifted one finger, telling him to be quiet.
Kenneth was bending over with laughter. "Your boss has some nerves. What kind of future son-in-law treats his father-in-law like that?"
"Strictly speaking, Mr. Lynch isn't his father-in-law," Robin said with complete seriousness. "He and Ms. Bell's mother were never legally married, and Sierra never took a paternity test with him."
Kenneth thought it over. "True."
If only it were summer, then they really could have helped things along.
Just as that thought crossed his mind, Joey suddenly walked toward Sierra and John with a glass of wine in his hand. Before he even got close, they heard him call out, "Sierra."
Sierra turned.
John caught that moment on camera and paused the recording.
Just as he was about to call Robin over and tell him not to let anyone near them, Joey stumbled and crashed to the ground. He cried out in pain. "Ah! Ouch!"
The wine in his glass splashed all over Sierra and John.
No more, no less.
