John's expression darkened slightly when he heard from Tommy what he had to say. As a bodyguard, Marcus was a little too meddlesome.
It was bad enough that he had said that in front of Sierra. He had actually said it in front of his son too.
Tommy sensed his mood and asked on purpose, "Do you want to help me find one?"
"I've only seen people get rid of their rivals. I've never seen anyone create one for himself," John said unhurriedly. "You can find a dad on your own. I'm afraid there's nothing I can do about this."
Tommy looked at him with his eyes. "Then I don't want to sleep next to you anymore."
John raised his eyebrow. "Oh?"
Tommy said, "I want to sleep by myself."
John raised the blanket without hesitation and said, "Sure."
Tommy blinked in confusion. Since when was his father so easy to provoke?
"When your mother asks later, remember to tell her you were the one who sent me to her room." John sat up, his tone calm. "I didn't decide that myself."
Tommy was even more confused. "When did I send you to Mom's room?"
"Your Mom didn't arrange a room for me, so I could only sleep here with you." John made himself sound pathetic, but his expression showed how justified he looked. "Since you don't want me, I can only ask if she wants me instead."
Tommy's concern instantly vanished. He had thought his words might have hurt father's fragile heart that was getting a little old. He even planned to give him some warmth so he would not be so sad.
But in the end...
"Good night," John said as he got out of bed.
Tommy sat up on his bed too and did not call John back. "Go ahead, then. Marcus will definitely throw you out."
"Then, I'll definitely take you with me the moment I get thrown out." John straightened his clothes, his words clear. "As father and son, we should share both joy and hardship, don't you think?"
Tommy was speechless. How did he always find a way to answer back no matter what he said?
John walked over and patted his head. "Get some sleep. Don't miss me too much."
Tommy reminded him, "Mom doesn't like you."
Besides, judging from how the two had gotten along tonight, she didn't dislike his dad as much as before. Anyway, he wasn't the type who would go too far.
When Sierra heard the knock on the door, she had just finished drying her hair. When she saw John standing neatly dressed outside as she opened the door, there was surprise in her eyes.
"Weren't you sleeping with Tommy?"
"I got kicked out," John said seriously.
Sierra frowned slightly.
Kicked out?
"The boy can't take a joke. I only said a few things and he already told me to leave." John was very good at playing the victim. "I came over to sit for a while. I'll go back after he calms down."
Sierra nodded and did not doubt him. "Okay."
John's eyes lingered on her for a few seconds.
Sierra had just taken a shower, and her fair face was flushed. A few dry strands of hair fell on her forehead, adding a hint of casualness to her appearance. Her pale lips were slightly pouted. It was hard for him not to pay attention to her for a little more.
