"No rush," Nathan said to Sierra. "We'll talk after dinner."
Sierra nodded in acknowledgment.
With John at the dinner, the meal went unusually smoothly. No one was asking any prying questions or gossiping. Everyone was wary of John and did not dare say much. Even when one or two questions came up, John stepped in and handled them for her, leaving Sierra with nothing much to do.
Because of that, the family dinner became just another ordinary dinner.
Most of the time, the Lynch family members were busy buttering up to John. It was all flattery going back and forth.
Halfway through dinner, Sierra looked at John. He sat there composed with an indifferent expression. As if sensing her gaze, he ended his conversation with someone else and looked at her. There was a tenderness in his eyes that even he did not seem to notice.
He asked, "What is it?"
"Nothing." Sierra looked away.
"If you want to leave, let me know," John said quietly near her ear. "I'll handle it."
Sierra was slightly dazed. In the past, he had said the same thing to her at every dinner party. Sometimes, she didn't even need to say anything before he took her away.
Suddenly, the wineglass in front of John fell over and wine spilled all over him with a splash and clank.
"Mr. Henderson, I'm so sorry!"
"Mr. Henderson, are you alright?"
The person toasting him panicked.
Although this was a family dinner, everyone knew John's status in their circles. Now that someone had accidentally spilled wine on him during a toast, everyone was afraid he would take it as the Lynch family provoking him.
"It's nothing." John stood and brushed at the wine stains. "I'll go get changed."
Everyone quickly agreed. "Of course, of course."
"I'm not very familiar with this place." John's eyes lay on Sierra. His voice was low and unhurried, and Sierra understood what he wanted. "Sierra, would you show me the way?"
She looked around.
Daniel nodded slightly. "Go ahead."
Nathan seized the opening and asked, "Why did I hear that someone has an objection to me giving my shares to Sierra?"
"Did anyone?"
"Why didn't I hear anything about it?"
"I haven't heard that, either."
"Sierra is your daughter. Isn't it perfectly normal for you to give her your shares?"
Everyone spoke one after another.
Nathan said nothing, but he knew exactly what these people were like. They were saying this right now because they were afraid of offending John. After some time had passed, they would change their tune again because of Cedric's threats.
Fence sitters… They were so annoying.
"Sierra is Nathan's daughter?" Cedric, who had been sitting off to the side, finally spoke. His tone was unhurried. "Why didn't I know? When did this happen?"
