Anna and Nathan were speechless too when they heard Sierra's words.
Nathan caught the disdain in Anna's eyes, and his expression changed a little. "I didn't think she'd come upstairs that fast."
"How did the discussion about the shares go?" Anna changed the subject. She had no interest in discussing anything else with him.
"Except for Cedric's side, everyone else came to persuade me to give the shares to Sierra," Nathan said honestly. "After John puts a little pressure on them, it should be settled."
Anna's eyes darkened. No one could tell what she was thinking.
Nathan seized the opportunity and asked, "Since you're willing to let Sierra accept my shares, does that mean you..."
"I'm recycling," Anna said. She had never forgiven him, and every word was the truth. "Cedric and his people were going to target her anyway. We might as well face them head-on."
Nathan asked, "You really don't have the slightest feeling left for me?"
"No," Anna said.
"Not even a little?" Nathan asked.
"Not even a little," Anna said.
"Seeing that I haven't gotten married for so many years for you, can't you have just a little feeling for me?" Nathan asked in a serious tone. "After you left, I never looked for anyone else."
Anna's judging eyes fell upon him.
Nathan thought she did not believe him. "It's true. Ask them if you don't believe me."
Anna gave him two words. "That's lucky."
Nathan was confused. "Lucky what?"
"People always like using noble excuses to cover up their own inadequacy." Anna put it another way, her expression completely flat.
Nathan was even more confused.
What noble excuses? What inadequacy? He was about to ask when the answer struck him. Based on Anna's line of thinking, there was only one possibility.
He asked, "You think I am unmarried because I can't perform in bed?"
"What do you think of my suggestion?" Cyrus sounded kind. "We can have dinner tomorrow night. That way, it won't interfere with your New Year's Eve dinner the night after."
"There are still a lot of things to handle at home, so I may not be able to come." Sierra refused tactfully.
Cyrus went quiet.
After a while, he asked, "Is your mother still not willing to come back?"
Sierra did not answer.
So far, her mother did not think much of the King family or the Lynch family. Most of the time, she did not even want to mention the King family.
"Is your mother with you right now?" Cyrus' voice was a little hoarse, heavy with emotion. "I want to talk to her."
"I'll give her the phone," Sierra said.
Sierra went downstairs and handed the phone to Anna. When Anna found out it was Cyrus, her expression barely changed and remained perfectly calm. "Cyrus."
"I'd like to invite you back for New Year's Eve dinner." Cyrus sounded conflicted, and his voice sounded much older than before. "Just the three of us. No one else."
