Chapter 89
Everyone froze.
They looked at one another, completely at a loss, with no idea how they had offended him.
“It seems you’re not very happy about me taking over at Origin Games,” John said lazily, smoothing his cuffs before he stood up. “In that case, I won’t stay.”
“It’s a misunderstanding! It’s a total misunderstanding! How can we possibly be unhappy about you managing Origin Games?!”
“Having you here is our honor. Other companies would kill for this opportunity!”
“If we messed up with anything, please just tell us.”
Panic spread around the room.
Everyone knew what John was capable of. He had surpassed his elder brother Solomon to become heir to the Henderson family. In the business world, he was seen as a trendsetter, the man who had turned more than one floundering company around.
Now that they had finally managed to bring him in, there was no way they would let him walk out.
“Is there some misunderstanding?” Morgan asked. He was dressed in a white suit, looking refined and composed.
John’s dark gaze turned to Sierra, then slowly moved down until it stopped on the soft drink in her hand. “No misunderstanding. I just think you’re all very good at picking a fight.”
Every face in the room darkened.
When had they picked a fight with him?
At that moment, Mr. Smith suddenly remembered that he had just had Sierra’s wine swapped out for a soft drink.
“You’re mistaken. That wasn’t my intention,” Mr. Smith quietly switched the soft drink in front of Sierra back to wine, then turned to John and apologized. “I thought Sierra was someone close to you. I’ll toast you three times.”
He tipped his head back and drained three glasses in a row.
Sierra looked across the table and met John’s eyes.
“Sierra, you should offer Mr. Henderson three toasts as an apology as well,” Mr. Snyder said as he faked a cough.
Sierra’s hands tightened around the stem of her glass.
She couldn’t handle alcohol well, and she had poor alcohol tolerance. John knew that better than anyone.
“Seems like your company staff has something against me,” John said, eyes lowered to Sierra, obviously making things difficult
for her.
“She’s new and doesn’t know much about the rules at these gatherings yet. Please don’t take it personally.” Morgan stepped in with a few words on Sierra’s behalf, then gave her a meaningful look. “Go on and apologize to Mr. Henderson.”
The air in the room turned cold.
Everyone present now understood that something had happened between Sierra and John, but no one dared even guess what it might be.
Just as Morgan was about to urge her a third time, Sierra lifted her glass to John. “I didn’t read the room just now. I apologize.”
She drank three glasses in succession, not pausing once.
The wine burned its way down her throat. It was so harsh, she couldn’t help but frown. All the liquor she had drunk put together

since childhood probably didn’t add up to those three glasses.
“Is that what you call an apology?”
At some point, John had already sat down again. His fingers tapped lightly on the table, his whole bearing cold and detached.
Sierra looked straight at him. “What do you want?”
His eyes left her face and fell on the bottle of strong liquor. “Finish that bottle.”
