Chapter 90
John reached out and took the glass from Sierra’s hand.
She instinctively drew back. “What are you doing?”
“I want to check whether it is wine or plain water you just switched in,” John said.
His warm fingertips brushed against her slender hand as he closed over the glass. The brief contact made Sierra let go, as if
shocked.
Every senior executive at the table saw it.
All of them had the same thought: if there was nothing between these two, they would eat their shoes.
Meanwhile, Morgan began to suspect that Sierra was the wife John was in the middle of divorcing. Everyone in the industry knew about John and his wife in broad strokes, but very few had ever seen her, and even fewer still had sat at the same table with them.
For a company like Origin Games, which wasn’t even close to the global top five hundred, there had never been any chance of that. John never allowed media coverage, and Sierra’s photos had never been released.
Even the time he and Pamela had briefly trended online, he had people handle the media coverage. Those who already knew him could recognize him from his outline and build, but those who didn’t had no idea what he looked like.
That was why everyone kept guessing.
“How am I supposed to switch this with something else when everyone’s watching?” Sierra asked.
To her, he was just trying to find a new way to cause her problems.
John glanced past her and at Mr. Smith. “Her wine was just switched to a soft drink a moment ago.”
Mr. Smith let out an awkward smile.
Sierra’s chest tightened as she watched John lift the glass to his nose and take a sniff. “So, is it wine or water?”
“Mr. Snyder,” John said, setting the glass back down.
“Yes?” Morgan answered.
John’s gaze never left Sierra. “Do all of your employees have this kind of attitude?”
Sierra fell silent.
So did Morgan.
Even Morgan didn’t know how to respond.
If Sierra really was John’s wife, it would be inappropriate for them to interfere or comment. If she wasn’t, then judging from the way they had been speaking and the way John was acting, their relationship was still far from ordinary.
He did not know John well, but he knew one thing. If John did not like someone, he would never be so patient. He would leave abruptly, and people would be left puzzled over what they’d done wrong, only to later understand when they received a “gift” from him.
That, or he would make things so stressful at the table that no one would even have the courage to breathe..
What he was doing now felt more like he was teasing her.
“You can’t be serious. Origin Games is your company now as well,” Morgan finally said, choosing his words carefully.

John’s fingers rested on the glass as he held it toward Sierra. “I checked. It’s wine.”
