Chapter 143
“What’s the matter?” I peered at him, not comprehending, “I thought you wanted an heir?”
My voice was filled with hurt. He should have brought this up with me in private if he had changed his mind. It wasn’t fair to put me on the spot like this and make a decision that didn’t involve me at all.
“That was before. Now I’ve had time to think about it, and it’s just not the right time. I think we should consider birth control.” His voice was firm.
“Birth control?” I said quietly, shaking my head at him, “I think it’s a little late for that, don’t you?”
“Don’t worry. There are options,” he began, and I stood up, yanking my hand away from him.
Good god. Was he thinking what I thought he was thinking? I felt nauseated at the very idea of getting rid of any child we conceived together. How could he say this to me? Why wasn’t he taking any interest in my opinions or what I wanted? Was this simply a my way or the highway kind of deal?
“What the fuck, Hades? What’s made you change your mind all of a sudden?” I said in a choked voice, “Why don’t you want a child with me? Have I done something wrong?”
“No,” he said, standing up and looking away from me, “I’m not sure that I want children at all,” he confessed and it was like all the light vanished from my world.
Don’t want a baby? He had been willing to have one with Marissa but not me? It made no sense.
I had always dreamed of having my own children and my own family one day and now, within minutes, Hades had stripped those dreams away from me completely. He’d pulled the rug right out from under me and left me reeling.
