Chapter 169
“Can we go now?” Marissa spat out, glaring at him.
He laughed and shook his head. “A little feisty there aren’t you, princess?” he whistled underneath his breath, never mind, I like a little spirit. Sure, we can go,” he shrugged, looking carefree, “but once we’re at the camp, you don’t so much as look at another man to get your jollies elsewhere. I won’t be cuckolded.”
“I promise,” Marissa choked out as his eyes darkened slightly while he continued to stare her directly in the eyes.
The thought of anyone touching her, let alone him, filled her with pure revulsion.
He frowned and then nodded, climbing back out of the car and shutting the door with a heavy thud behind him as Marissa let out a breath of relief. She shivered, grabbing the cloak and wrapping herself with it as she leaned against the seat, Darius getting back into the driver’s seat.
The rest of the trip was made in silence, Darius glancing occasionally at Marissa in the backseat without saying anything, his jaw clenching every so often. She stared out the window, watching as unfamiliar landmarks flew by breathing steadily as her body began to come back under control, her finger unconsciously tracing the new tattoo on her neck. When they arrived, Marissa blinked, glancing at Darius uncertainly. There was nothing but forest and trees for miles. She couldn’t see a building of any kind. He abandoned the car and opened the door, grabbing her hand and roughly yanking her out as she made a small sound of protest.
“Time to walk,” he said breezily.
She endured the feel of his hand tightening around hers as he pulled her along, stumbling every so often as she trod on branches. Dirt. Trees. Bushes. Nothing of importance. They walked for what felt like miles and then stopped at a dead-looking bush, Darius glancing around and over his shoulder as Marissa frowned. He calmly pushed the bush branches up and then motioned to Marissa, who moved closer. A door. A square metal door hidden beneath the bush. She opened it and saw a large staircase, thankfully not made of metal, leading downwards.
