Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 171

Chapter 171

In a coma. My mate was lying in a coma. I couldn’t breathe. I could barely look past the vision that was beginning to blur in front of me. My breathing became shallow and my hands trembled.

“The baby?” I barely managed to whisper, already dreading his answer.

“Safe for now but it could change,” he said apologetically.

“Do you want to see her?” he added, no doubt already knowing the answer.

“Yes,” I choked out. wanting nothing more than to lay eyes on Raven and see her for myself. To confirm she was still alive and breathing.

He led the way. We followed in silence. She was in a private room, and as we stepped inside, I sucked in a breath looking grimly at all the machines she was hooked up to, all of them recording her pulse, her vitals, and even helping her to breathe. It was overwhelming. My chest tightened, and I rushed to her side, grabbing her hand with tenderness and sitting on the chair beside her. I wasn’t about to let go of her.

I heard Alpha Daxton swallow hard, and Damien let out a muffled curse as they moved and stood next to Raven’s other side. Not once had they blamed me, perhaps sensing I was already blaming myself. Damien reached out and tentatively trailed a finger down her cheek while Alpha Daxton took hold of her other hand. Aeress and Jackson quietly excused themselves, deeming the room to be too crowded and promised to visit Raven later. I barely heard them. All my focus was on Raven.

“Raven,” I murmured, moving closer and peering at her closed eyes, “you need to wake up, sweetheart, please,” I begged, feeling my chest tighten, “I need you to wake up. I’m sorry,” I apologized. “I’m sorry for not getting there sooner. I should never have let you out of my sight.”
