Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 178

Chapter 178

Hades POV

She’s awake. Her eyes flutter open, and it feels like a heavy weight has lifted off my shoulders. Her vital signs become stable, and I practically lunge towards her, wrapping my arms tightly around my mate, nuzzling her, and breathing heavily. I’d been so scared of losing her, of Raven succumbing to the poison and dying. I feel her chest rise up and down, hear her shallow breathing, and then, she places her arms around me, sitting upwards and breathing in my scent as though she’s come home and if I’m honest, she has. She is my home. My lifeboat. My calm in the storm. My whole world. For the first time in a long time, I feel my body relax as I hold her, never wanting to let her go.

Finally, she pushes me back, and I reluctantly pull back, allowing her to glance around the room, her brow creasing before she sees her father and brother standing there. Her father hugs her, tears trickling down his cheeks, while Damien takes hold of her hand, a relieved smile on his face. Both of them look exhausted, with dark circles under their eyes, but they had resolved to be here when Raven woke up. Their loyalty was admirable, and so was the love they showed for Raven.

“Babygirl, I thought I’d lost you,” Alpha Daxton whispers, stroking her hair, his eyes filled with emotion.

He looked on the verge of losing it, even as he kept a forced smile on his face. He’d come so close to losing his daughter, and it showed through every tired movement he made.

He’d been here without fail over the days, early to arrive and late to leave. So had Damien.

Raven smiles, but it’s filled with pain. Something is haunting her, and her eyes avoid our gaze. She’s hiding something, but I can’t tell what. al frown, moving closer, an urge to protect her overcoming me.

“You didn’t lose me,” she whispers, taking her father’s hand, “I’m right here, see,” she said thickly with a watery smile.

We bask in her presence, ignoring the doctors and nurses bustling around us as they check Raven over thoroughly. Right now, she’s the only thing we concentrate on. Surprisingly, they inform us that her vitals are stable and she’s on the mend. The poison is gone from her system. She’s healed. It’s a miracle.

“How long was I out?” she croaked, her voice slightly raspy as I grab her some water, which she gratefully sips at.

“A few days,” I said, looking down at her, my face a mixture of concern and utter relief, “at one stage we thought you were going to…” I trailed off, feeling my throat tighten.

I can’t bring myself to say it. She’d come so close to death. It was a miracle she survived, and I knew that the moon goddess had to have something to do with it. I silently thanked her in my mind.
