She falls silent. Anything she says is only going to anger Darius more, and he’s already volatile. She’s not about to make it worse. But then she speaks up without thinking.

“Can’t we just leave them both alone…” she trails off at the menacing look in his eyes.

She flinches, knowing that she is about to suffer his wrath again.

He moves, wrapping his hand around her throat and squeezing it hard as she gasps for air, her fingers clawing at his hands. “You think I don’t know about your love for him?” he growled, “you think you’re going to get rid of me and have a happy ever after?” he snarled as she tried frantically to shake her head, “because news flash, Marissa, you’re mine in case you’ve forgotten. We’re mates. I marked you. You’re not going anywhere. I’m going to keep you until the day you die. One of these days, you’re going to love me back and if you even consider trying to cheat on me, I won’t hesitate to kill you both.”

He focuses on the fact that she begged for mercy for Hades when she’d actually begged for him to leave Raven alone as well, his jealousy getting the better of him.

Her eyes bulge as she continues to claw at him. He lifts her and shakes her like a ragdoll. She can feel her teeth chattering. Her lungs begin to seize as she can’t draw oxygen into them.

“Can’t breathe,” she manages to utter, and his grip loosens before he flings her to the floor, standing over her, his breathing heavy now.

She stays there, fearing he might get more furious if she tries to stand. She cowers, even as she reluctantly looks up at him. His expression is dark. Intimidating. She blinks the tears threatening to fall and massages her throat.

“As for your question, we’ll attack Alpha Hade’s pack when we’re good and ready,” he hissed, before kicking her in the stomach and causing her to spit out blood.
