Chapter 205
Smug bastard.
Damien took hold, and I saw a tenderness in his gaze.
“She’s so small,” he whispered, a hitch in his voice, “so delicate. She looks so much like you Raven,” he added before bringing her back over to me and gently placing her back in my arms.
“I’m so proud of you,” my father burst out, “she’s gorgeous, Raven. Congratulations,” he added and suprised Hades by sweeping him into a hug.
Hades awkwardly patted my father on the back while Damien smirked at his discomfort.
“I think Raven should take the credit,” Hades hastily added as my father finally relinquished him.
My daughter began to wriggle and cry.
I undid the front of my gown, and the men all averted their eyes. Well except for Hades, who drank it all in like a man who couldn’t get enough of staring at our little precious bundle.
She latched on and I quickly covered myself with a small blanket.
The men turned and looked at me.
“Hungry little thing,” a nurse said delightedly, “that’s an excellent sign.”
I beamed in spite of myself. My urge to murder the doctor in particular had vanished. I felt peaceful now.
“So how are things with you know?” I said tentatively to Damien.
He tightened his lips and said nothing. I left it alone.
“I’m retiring,” my father announced with a twinkle in his eye, “going to travel for a bit, take a well-deserved break. Damien’s in charge of the pack. I’ve been waiting for my granddaughter to be born before I left.”
It had only been a few weeks. Shifters gave birth a lot sooner than humans did.
“How long?” I whispered.
“Oh, baby, I’ll visit, don’t worry. I just want some time to myself,” he assured me, “but I would never abandon you or my family. I love you all so much.”
I nodded. My father deserved a break. Privately, I hoped he might find a companion, a woman to keep him company, but he still lived with my mother’s memory and I didn’t think he was ready to let go of that anytime soon.
A love like that was something to be envious of. His loyalty was the kind a woman could only dream about. Maybe I was biased, though, because he was my father.
“What’s her name?”
