Rejected, Abused, I Fall for the Forbidden Alpha (by Riley Scott) novel Chapter 21

Chapter 21

Raven POV

I silently join the crowd, remaining on the outskirts, watching, waiting. Aeress walks to Hades, a look of utmost confidence on her face. Hades is stunned, a look of surprise on his face. Jackson hovers behind her, looking slightly uncomfortable. She takes hold of both of her brother’s hands and smiles lovingly at him.

“It’s been so long,” she breathed, “Do you have any idea how much I’ve missed you?”

Marissa’s face was a picture. My mother stood there, a scowl on her face. Both of them thought that Marissa was some sort of ex-girlfriend or mistress. Hades had yet to explain his relationship with her. I feel anticipation running through my veins. I could already sense where this was going and how Marissa would react. She was predictable, always had been.

“Aeress,” Hade’s voice is low but carries through the crowd. “What on earth are you doing here? When did you arrive?”

His eyes glint, and there’s the slightest hint of a smile on his usual stoic face. There’s the merest hint of affection there, no matter how hard he tries to hide it. Aeress, on the other hand, can’t contain her joy at seeing her big brother again. It’s adorable to watch. I envy it. They both have feelings for each other, a bond between them.

“Not too long ago. Did you miss me?” she stands on tiptoe and kisses Hade’s cheek. It’s the last straw for Marissa, who immediately misinterprets the situation. She shoves poor Aeress, hard, causing her to stumble backwards in shock as Jackson quickly steadies her, glaring at Marissa.

“Hasn’t anybody told you it’s impolite to touch somebody else’s man?” Marissa snarled, my mother nodding vehemently beside her in agreement.

“You must be the fiancée,” Aeress said faintly, glancing from Hades to Aeress and shaking her head at Jackson when he looked as though he was about to push forward and confront Marissa.
